Public consultation on Cullompton relief road proposals

The latest round of public consultation on plans for a Cullompton town centre relief road will continue until Friday 20 December.

The relief road has been a long-standing aspiration of the town, having been included in Mid Devon’s Local Plan since 2011, in order to move traffic congestion away from the town centre.

Devon County Council is currently developing and finalising the design of the scheme and people are invited to have their say on the proposals.

The scheme aims to support the future economic growth of the town by tackling traffic congestion and improving air quality. It will reduce queuing on the motorway off-slips and onto the motorway, particularly during peak travel times.

An initial public consultation was held last year on three possible alignments for a relief road around Cullompton, which informed Devon County Council’s decision to agree a preferred route.

This preferred route has been moved closer to the railway line, where possible, to minimise the impact on the Cullompton Community Association (CCA) fields. Alterations are being incorporated at the southern end of the scheme, which were suggested during the first public consultation. Junction arrangements at either end of the scheme, environmental mitigation, and the relocation of sports pitches are also being finalised.

The consultation documents are currently on display at the Hayridge Library in Cullompton until Friday 20 December, which is also the deadline for consultation submissions.
