£500 up for grabs in young farmers innovation competition

Are you a young farmer with an innovative idea of how to make your job easier? If so then you could be in with a chance of winning £500 to develop your concept thanks to a new Mole Valley Farmers competition.

The Mole Valley Farmers Innovation competition is exclusively open to young farmers up to 26 years old and includes three age group categories; 10-14 years old, 15-18 years old and 19-26. £500 is up for grabs for each of the category winners, with one overall winner also gaining support from Mole Valley Farmers to develop and/or share their idea.

Julie Edwards from farmer owned business, Mole Valley Farmers says the competition is designed to show the company’s support for innovation within agriculture.

“Market pressures mean farming innovation is more important than ever. Where costs need to be reduced and profits maximised, new ideas and efficient practices lead the way. Many of Britain’s young farmers have some fantastic ideas to help secure a brighter future and we want to hear about them,” she says.

Your idea could be any new and problem solving idea - perhaps a unique water harvesting technique, a different approach to data recording, speedy fencing or labour saving technology.

To enter, young farmers simply need to send a 60 second video to Mole Valley Farmers via Facebook Messenger. The video can be recorded on a phone and should explain:

  • Your name
  • How you came up with the idea.
  • What problem your idea solves or would solve.
  • What efficiency benefit the idea offers - this could be time saving, cost saving or safety enhancing etc.
  • How other farmers/farm could implement the idea.
  • How the idea could be further developed.

The best video will be shared on the Mole Valley Farmers’ Facebook page and will be judged by the number of likes they receive between 8 August 2016 and 1 September 2016.

Entries close on 8 August with the three winners drawn on 1 September 2016. Entries to: www.molevalleyfarmers.com/futurefarmer
