Exeter Racecourse's networking event proves the way for gaining new customers
Exeter Racecourse hosted its first networking event of the year with a sell-out gathering that was buzzing with enthusiasm, as businesses from across the region came together full of optimism for the year ahead. Delegates enjoyed a productive morning of networking, followed by afternoon racing.
The quarterly networking events, launched in 2024, have quickly become some of the most popular business gatherings in the region. Hosted at the racecourse, they offer a relaxed yet professional environment that encourages meaningful connections.
The events are spearheaded by Head of Sales Jo Kingston alongside Hospitality Manager Ryan Woollacott and are now regarded as must-attend dates by many local businesses.
Richard Kaye from Exeter Friend Legal Services spoke positively about the start to the year, saying, “We’re very positive about the year ahead. I give advice on disputes and this first week has got off to a very good start. This building is coming up to four years old, so the brand has become better known and I’m starting to see the benefits of that, particularly over the last six months.”
Ollie Jackman from Agile Comms commented on the upbeat mood among attendees, saying, “January can often feel gloomy, but this week has been really positive. I network a lot and while the last quarter slowed down for many businesses, everyone here feels eager and ready to get bookings back in. There’s a lot of optimism in the room today.”
For many delegates, the welcoming atmosphere helped remove the usual nerves associated with networking. Bacon rolls, a friendly reception and informal surroundings acted as natural ice breakers.
Vicky Hanks from Booster, a merchandising business, attended her fifth event and said, “This is always a great mix of people in a really brilliant environment. There’s nothing else quite like it, and I always recommend people book early because it sells out very quickly. I’ve picked up new customers from coming along too. It’s a great atmosphere to chat and explore potential new business.”
Claire Knoechl, attending on behalf of Adopstar, added, “We really love this event. There are always new faces and it’s a lovely, casual atmosphere with good conversations. With racing afterwards, it makes for a really fun day.”
Pavol Rovensky, Director of Hexner Limited, said, “This is our third event and we really enjoy coming along. We work in the cyber space, so it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and make new contacts. It’s always nice to get out and connect face to face.”
Claire Saunders from FC Payroll Solutions reflected on her experience, saying, “I came to my first event last year and I was blown away. The atmosphere is relaxed yet energetic. Networking can be daunting, but it feels different here. There are familiar faces, new connections, and the buffet is a bonus too.”
The next free networking event takes place on 3 March and is free to attend. Places can be found by searching on Eventbrite.
