Everything You Need to Know About Planning a Destination Wedding

A destination wedding completely changes the pace of the day, with intimate ceremonies and champagne in the sun. You create a shared trip that people remember long after. That said, planning from a distance brings its own pressures. You need to think beyond décor and menus and focus on legalities and guest experience. When you make practical choices early, you avoid stress later and give yourself space to enjoy the occasion you’ve planned.

Choosing the Right Destination

A remote island might look idyllic, but long travel times and high costs can limit who attends. If...

NY Times best selling author shares his wisdom

Don't ignore the benefits of other's experience

The ability to listen to others is not, typically, the entrepreneur’s greatest strength. If you’re the oldest guy in the shop, if you’re the one others turn to when they want to hear about the “old days,” it’s time to find yourself an even older grizzly. When I first bought Mackay Envelope, I was twenty-six. My lawyer, the one I hired after I fired the young hotshot who told me not to buy the envelope company, was sixty. My accountant was fifty-eight, and my banker would admit to being seventy, but I think he was closer to eighty....

The real life of a Female Bodybuilder - part 3

This blog is all about my journey to compete as a figure competitor at the BNBF (British Natural Bodybuilding Federation) at the Welsh qualifier in July this year. Last week I spoke about starting off this new phase of training which is back to a ‘full body training method’ to reduce body fat. I also spoke about having my body fat measurements done after the initial 4 week block of a ‘building phase’ in which I did a 4 way split, namely chest, back, legs and arms. This week I am into week 2 of the ‘Full body training’. To be honest this week has been a real struggle. I was ill for 2 days...

Diary of a proud new dad

I am grateful that I was lucky enough to witness the miracle of my daughter's birth and even had the honour of cutting her umbilical cord.

It was rather poignant that months of nurturing and nourishing was ended in seconds with the snip of a pair of scissors, wielded by me.

Poignant, because my role in creating this wonderful new life was neither arduous, nor was it demanding of my time.

Her mother meanwhile, has gone through the agony of cramps, back pain, kicks, nocturnal internal gymnastic displays and a diet lacking many of the things she enjoys.

I have...

My first 100 days in office by Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg

Hello, I am writing this on my 100th day in office. If I’m honest, it feels more like 100 minutes because we’ve packed so much in to these first three months, and at times there’s hardly been time to catch my breath.

I am really pleased with what I’ve managed to achieve so far. The appointment of a new Chief Constable, publication of the police and crime plan and setting the budget quite rightly took a good deal of thought and hard work, and I suspect you wouldn’t want it any other way.

I do realise that many of you are yet to be convinced about the need for a Police and...

What’s in a Brand?

Have you ever contemplated why some businesses do so much better than others in the same industry? And do you find yourself drawn to certain products, remembering certain slogans and tunes with good product recall?

Love it or Hate it, Go Compare, is probably one of the most well known brands in the country and having gauged the depth of feeling with the public about how annoying the Go Compare advertisements have now become, their advertising strategy has now moved to engaging high profile celebrities in trying to kill the Go Compare man off – Clever!

Building a strong brand...

During the Civil War, President Lincoln was urged by a friend to give up Forts Sumter and Pickens and all government property in the Southern states. In reply, Lincoln said, “Do you remember the fable of the lion and the woodsman’s daughter?”

“Aesop writes that a lion was very much in love with a woodsman’s daughter. The fair maid referred him to her father. And the lion went to the father and asked for her hand.

“The father replied: ‘Your teeth are too long.’”

The lion went to a dentist and had them extracted. Returning, he asked again for his bride.

Flo Gets Fit Week 5: TRX and Tabata-style workout

I've had a hectic couple of weeks with work and a weekend away to London, but have still managed to fit in 3 workouts. I'm really starting to feel like my fitness is improving and Martin is incorporating more advanced exercises into the sessions.

The first session was a kettlebell and bodyweight circuit. The first time I completed the circuit I used a mixture of an 8kg and 12kg kettlebell; doing exercises such as squats, lunges, kettlebell swings, a clean and jerk lift for 30 seconds each. The circuit also incorporated bodyweight exercises such as burpees and walkouts, which...

Flo Gets Fit Week 4: Going It Alone

With Martin away working at a bootcamp, my challenge this week has been keeping up my training on my own.

Before leaving, Martin gave me a programme for me to complete in the gym. As my leg was still a bit sore at the beginning of the week, I went to a couple of spinning classes instead so I wasn't bearing any weight on it. I stayed with my gym buddy Sarah to do some weights after a class as well, just to keep up with my resistance training.

I felt confident enough to get back in the gym by Sunday and in the afternoon, managed to tear myself away from the 6 Nations to go up...

Flo Gets Fit Week 3: Burpees and Calf Strains

It's a bit of a cliche, but nobody said this was going to be easy! This week I've had my first real setback: straining my soleus (the muscle from your calf to your achilles). This, coupled with a busy weekend involving a fair amount of eating and drinking exactly what I shouldn't be, has made me feel like I've really fallen off the wagon.

All that being said, I have still managed to fit in 2 1/2 training sessions! The first this week was another circuits and resistance session. After warming up and stretching, I started with a circuit of 5 exercises; doing each for 45 seconds. The...

An antidote to the clichés of Valentine's Day gifts

Valentine's Day will soon be upon us. Shortly, everything will only be available in red, heart-shaped containers, especially chocolates! Why red, why heart-shaped and who’s ever seen a heart shaped that way anyway? I haven’t! Don’t go to the net to try and find an answer to that one by the way, there are too many counter-arguments!

We are supposed to give gifts to the ones we love. The question I have to that one is “why don’t we do that throughout the year?” “Why Valentines Day?” Again, the net doesn’t offer much help there; it’s either, a Christian martyr, a Bishop, a saint –...
