Exeter Lives: Adam Stone

Name: Adam Stone – CEO of Rokk Media Ltd and on the board or a shareholder of businesses in the region.

How would you describe yourself in five words?
Ordinary chap with extraordinary friends.

How would you describe Exeter in five words?
My home and my passion.

What brought you to Exeter?
I was born and raised here.

Which part of Exeter is home?
The village of Alphington – a few minutes walk from my office.

What is your favourite place in Exeter?
A walk, cycle or very occasional boat trip along the river Exe to the estuary.

What is your favourite Exeter event?
Animated Exeter. I am fortunate enough to sit on the Animated Exeter board. It's been doing very well over the last couple years but next year (February 2014) promises to be an amazing event for Exeter.

What was the last live performance you saw in Exeter and where did you see it?
Comedy Club at the Corn Exchange.

Favourite place to eat out in or near Exeter?
To my great shame I am not much of a 'foody', which is sad as there are so many fantastic places to eat in Exeter. For me it's much more about enjoying good company whether that's over a bag of chips or a gastronomic extravaganza at one of our world renowned restaurants.

Best coffee in town?
The best coffee I've had recently was at Gourmandine Creperie and Bistrot in Catherine Street near Exeter Cathedral.

Favourite pub?
Alas, I am not much of a drinker – although I make an exception when it's rugby and football season. For some reason, the beer after a successful Exeter Chiefs or Exeter City win has the most amazing taste!

Favourite locally produced food or drink?
I recently discovered the best scotch eggs I have ever tasted on sale at Taverners Farm shop just outside Exeter!

Favourite shop?
Exeter is blessed with such an array of high quality independents and multiples that we're really spoiled for choice. As my company develops apps for iPhones, iPads and Androids you can often find me mooching around the Princesshay Apple Store or sharing anecdotes with the knowledgeable staff at Stormfront in Matford.

Favourite shopping area?
Fore Street, Heavitree. It's where I spent many a happy childhood saturday in the 70s buying a copy of 2000AD from the newsagents and a slice of cherry shortbread from the local bakers.

Exeter Chiefs or Exeter City?
Both! Rokk Media is heavily involved with both clubs as a sponsor and supporter and it's great to live in a city that has such a wealth of successful sport to watch and take part in.

Beach or moors?
Dartmoor is where I go to recharge my batteries, so the moors every time.

What or where is Exeter's best kept secret?
The Obelisk lying deep within Haldon Forest on the fringes of Exeter. The walk is wonderful enough but it leads to a breathtaking view overlooking Exeter and the Exe estuary.

What one change would you like to see in Exeter?
That our local theatres are better supported and patronised.

Who is your local hero or heroine?
My dad.

Do you belong to any local clubs or societies?
No – well none that I can tell you about!

What are you up to next?
Some very exciting developments which we hope will see Rokk Media become a big player on the global stage, continuing to do as much as I can to promote our beautiful city and supporting local good causes for the betterment of our wonderful community.
