Devon veterans can now apply for life-changing mobility support

Devon veterans with mobility issues attributable to their service are now able to apply for support from the reinstated Veterans’ Mobility Fund (VMF).

Administration of the life-changing fund was awarded to Help for Heroes and Blesma by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) and the Armed Forces Covenan t Trust Fund in September, 2023.

The VMF is a central fund, awarded by the OVA, to support veterans with physical disabilities through grants to enable them to access mobility equipment that improves their quality of life.

Exeter matron awarded Queen’s Nurse title

An NHS community matron from Exeter has been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse.

Rachel Armstrong was given the title by The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) at an awards ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London.

The award by the national community nursing charity reflects a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.

Rachel, who has been in nursing for 35 years, works as a community matron for the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

Highbullen Hotel, Golf and Country Club was the proud winner of two of the most prestigious categories at the Devon Tourism Awards 2015 - gold for Venue and Business Tourism and silver for Large Hotel of the Year.

Devon Venus Awards 2015 winners announced

The winners of this year’s Devon Venus Awards 2015 have been announced at a glamorous red carpet event in the county’s capital.

More than 250 guests and sponsors attended the awards ceremony held at the University of Exeter’s Great Hall with winners whittled down to the 12 categories from more than 1,500 nominations in the county this year.

30 November 2015. Rydon Farm Bed and Breakfast in Woodbury, near Exeter, was delighted to receive a Gold Award at the Devon Tourism Awards held at The Holiday Inn, Plymouth on 26 November.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has won the Best Fundraiser honour on behalf of the Royal Navy’s payroll giving scheme (PRG) at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards 2015. Devon Wildlife Trust is the 2015 recipient of the Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI) Environmental Education Award.

Exeter scoops award for solar car ports

An initiative to install the UK's first solar panel car ports in two Exeter car parks has won an environmental award for Exeter City Council.

The City Council scooped The Most Sustainable Public Sector Project - Innovation Award at the Public Sector Sustainability Awards in London.
