Three SW groups shortlisted for housebuilder's £1m prize fund

Regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South West has shortlisted three groups supporting under-18s to go forward for a chance to win up to £100,000 through its Building Futures campaign.

The groups have been selected from three categories targeting grassroots sports groups, health organisations and arts & education projects.

 Shine 21 Dorset Down Syndrome Buddy Club will represent the arts & education category at the national final, North Devon Marlins Swim Academy has been selected to represent sport and Compass Disability Services health.

TAUNTON Leisure – Exeter has been nominated by the general public for the national Great Outdoors Awards 2018 this month (October 2018).

The outdoor clothing and equipment specialist, which is on Fore Street, has been put forward by its customers for Independent Retailer of the Year.

Saturday saw hundreds of people pour into Exeter Cathedral for an event as dramatic as its surroundings. The city’s first ever Slow Fashion Show, hosted by Exeter-based ethical fashion and lifestyle brand, Sancho’s, and InExeter, was the flagship event of what has become an annual affair - Style In Exeter Week. Over 500 people flocked to the Cathedral from Exeter and beyond to learn about what Exeter has to offer when it comes to sustainable fashion.

Cannings H2O based in Exeter, Devon are celebrating after collecting two Silver and a Bronze Award at the prestigious British Pool & Hot Tub Awards, hosted by BISHTA and SPATA, held on Tuesday 30th January, at the Ricoh Arena, in Coventry.  The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA) and the Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA) are the relevant bodies upholding standards within the Wet Leisure Industry. Rebranded in 2015, the first BISHTA awards were won in 2008, while the first SPATA awards were won in 1978.

Oakdown celebrates regional award success

SIDMOUTH-based family Holiday Park, Oakdown, has kicked off 2018 with yet more incredible award success, by winning the prestigious gold award for Best Holiday Park in the South West.

The award was presented to the Oakdown team at the South West Tourism Awards ceremony at the Riviera Centre in Torquay last night.

‘Winning the Visit Devon award last year was just brilliant for us, but now to be awarded the gold at a regional level, really is the icing on the cake,’ said Alastair Franks, owner of Oakdown.

Devon’s Beach Schools South West company – which puts the coast onto the educational curriculum – has been honoured at 10 Downing Street after being recognised by an organisation promoting small businesses.

The not-for-profit community company is among 100 across the UK chosen by the organisation Small Business Saturday, which supports and promotes smaller companies.

Beach Schools South West takes children out on to beaches in the region to teach them subjects tied in with the National Curriculum, including ecology, geology and conservation.
