Tiverton Museum among the finalists for Small Visitor Attraction at the Devon Tourism Awards 2013

Tiverton Museum is delighted to be the only museum to become a finalist in the Small Visitor Attraction category at the Devon Tourism Awards. Reaching this stage means that the museum will win either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended awards.

Sandy Park up for top award

Sandy Park, home to Aviva Premiership club Exeter Chiefs, has been shortlisted for Rugby Venue of the Year at the upcoming Rugby Expo Awards.

The Devon venue, which was built in 2006, will battle it out for the honour along with Allianz Park, the home to top flight rivals Saracens.

Last season, Aviva Premiership supporters from all 12 clubs voted Sandy Park as the best match-day experience, whilst in 2015 the stadium will also play host to three Rugby World Cup games.

The passion and success of the South West food and drink industry was clear for all to see at the Taste of the West Awards’ Ceremony on Tuesday 15th October. Devon County Council shortlisted for UK Bus Award

Devon County Council has been shortlisted in this year’s UK Bus Awards.

The County Council is among four finalists in the running for Local Authority Bus Project of the Year Award for its continued work on "Integrating Transport" in Devon.

Despite the challenges posed by the rural landscape of Devon, the County Council has developed partnerships and invested in infrastructure and facilities in order to increase demand for bus travel, improve the reliability of services and information for passengers, as well as reduce barriers to travel.

One of the biologists whose work on cell systems won him the Nobel prize for Medicine thought he was the victim of a practical joke when first hearing the news. German-born Professor Thomas Sὔdhof, aged 57, said: “I thought at first it was a joke. I have lots of friends who might play these kinds of tricks.” Sὔdhof along with Randy Schekman, 64, and James Rothman, 62, won a share of the 8m Swedish Kroner prize (£776,000) for their work into the internal ‘cargo delivery’ in cells. Digita, Thomson-Reuters’ Exmouth-based software house, is up for a top industry award.

Their software Digita Company Secretarial has been shortlisted in this year’s British Accountancy Awards as Practice Software Product of the Year.

It is part of a range of products produced to aid accountancy firms in their day to day practice.

Exeter’s Bike Shed Theatre has been shortlisted as one of the UK’s most welcoming theatres in a national competition. More than 225 theatres were put forward for the award before being narrowed down to a shortlist of seven theatres by a public vote.
