Devon Community Foundation are set to hold their annual Volunteer of the Year awards in October at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter, honouring the hard work and achievements of the hundreds of volunteers contributing to community groups across Devon.

The awards will have an added element of excitement as BBC Radio will be broadcasting the awards live with David Fitzgerald as host for the evening.

Four young Devon-based students have received a prestigious award recognising talent in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) at this year’s Enterprising Young Devon Awards.

The accolades, sponsored by Devon County Council, were held at the University of Exeter’s Big Bang Fair South West.

Students from South Dartmoor Academy, Braunton Academy, Tavistock College and Kingsbridge Community College beat off 450 competitors from 36 schools in the region, all aged between 11 and 18 years, to have their projects crowned the best in demonstrating innovation, creativity...

PC Rachel Ward of Devon and Cornwall Police is among the winners of the Trading Standards Heroes Award, presented on 3 July. PC Ward, based in Kingsbridge, was recognised for her bravery in bringing a rogue trader to justice following a lengthy investigation by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards. Entries for the Devon & Cornwall Police Partnership Community Volunteer Awards 2014 close on Friday, 11 July.

The awards will reward and recognise those who give their time to support local neighbourhoods to build strong and cohesive communities.

The awards are supported by PCC Tony Hogg, the police, Devon and Cornwall Community Watch Association and Crimestoppers.

A University of Exeter physics expert has been bestowed with a prestigious award, for his significant widening participation and outreach work.

Professor Peter Vukusic has been named as the 2014 winner of the Bragg Medal, awarded by the Institute of Physics.

The Pearson Teaching Awards hosted a prestigious event at the House of Commons last week to honour all those who have won a Silver Teaching Award in 2014.

Andy Waite of Exeter College attended the event which was held to celebrate exceptional teachers from across the UK. He won his trophy in the category FE Teacher/Lecturer of the Year, after being shortlisted from a record number of over 20,000 nominations made by grateful pupils, past and present, parents and colleagues.

Chairman and chief executive Tony Rowe OBE has spoken of his joy after the Exeter Rugby Group were crowned ‘Company of the Year’ at Thursday night’s South West Dealmakers Awards.

At a glittering awards ceremony in Bristol, Mr Rowe accompanied by fellow ERG director Nigel Hall, accepted the prestigious prize in front of an audience of some 300 people at the Thistle Grand Hotel.
