A world-leading climate scientist from the University of Exeter has been honoured with a prestigious national science award.

Professor Pierre Friedlingstein, from the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences has been bestowed with a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.

He is one of just 14 scientists nationwide to be awarded the honour, in recognition of his outstanding research entitled Earth System biogeochemical feedbacks, climate targets and emissions mitigation.

Assistant director for health and social care, Keri Storey was crowned a national winner at the NHS Leadership Academy’s recognition awards in February, winning the category of NHS Partnership/System Leader of the Year 2014. Her win followed on from success in the same category at the South West regional awards.

Environmental networking charity DEBI says it has just a few sponsorship opportunities remaining for its 2014 awards.

DEBI has already secured category sponsorship from South West Water and South Devon tyre recycler Bandvulc. The Environment Agency and green issue management specialist JP Associates are co-sponsoring this year’s Environmental Champion, won in 2013 by Gabriel Wondrausch of SunGift Energy.

Exeter café shortlisted for prestigious award

A local community café has been shortlisted for a high profile national award by UK charity and leading awarding body in deaf communications, Signature.

Exeter’s Café 55 has been named as one of four contenders in the Community Spirit category at the 2014 Signature Annual Awards.

The judging panel for the 11th annual Startups Awards has been announced, with some of the greatest business brains in Britain set to assess entrants across the South West.

Nineteen high profile judges have been selected, including entrepreneurs, CEOs and managing directors of the country’s most successful companies, as well as media experts.

Devon’s best bus driver has been named by Devon County Council at a surprise presentation yesterday on Tuesday.

Hundreds of bus passengers across the county have been voting for their favourite bus driver over the past couple of months, in a competition organised by the County Council.

Builders, architects and their clients have scooped prestigious awards for building excellence in projects across Teignbridge, West Devon and the South Hams.
