Charity wins top award for green education

Devon Wildlife Trust is the 2015 recipient of the Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI) Environmental Education Award.

This award category is aimed at those who ‘promote environmental education across Devon recognising schools, colleges, universities, as well as community groups and the business sector who has made a significant contribution to improving environmental education’.

Whirlwind of awards for Glazebrook House Hotel

What a phenomenal week it has been for South Devon’s Glazebrook House Hotel. Hot on the heels of being recognised as one of Britain’s Ultimate 100 Hotels 2015 by The Sunday Times, it just been named the ‘Best Small, Exclusive Hotel’ in the Condé Nast Johansens 2016 Awards for Excellence. In addition, it was jointly awarded the title of ‘Best Hotel Restaurant’ in the Devon Life Food and Drink Awards. The celebrations continued when its new executive chef, Michelin starred Anton Piotrowski, was named ‘Best Chef of the Year’ at these prestigious Devon Awards.

Exeter scoops award for solar car ports

An initiative to install the UK's first solar panel car ports in two Exeter car parks has won an environmental award for Exeter City Council.

The City Council scooped The Most Sustainable Public Sector Project - Innovation Award at the Public Sector Sustainability Awards in London.

Jo Pearce, Corporate Energy Manager, who oversaw the installation of the solar panel car ports on the top decks of Mary Arches and John Lewis Car Parks was presented with the Award by Lord Renesdale.

The finalists of 2015’s Teignbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards have been unveiled.

Chunk's pies and pasties bring home the bacon

Devon-based pasty and pie maker, Chunk, is celebrating after winning six awards from Food & Drink Devon this week, bringing the company’s awards total to an impressive 66.

Its Chicken and Chorizo pasty scooped the coveted platinum award, as well as five of Chunk’s other products winning gold.

The Chunk team has earned a flurry of honours over the summer, both in regional and national awards, and the new accolades have secure its title as the most coveted pie and pasty operation in the country.

FIVE successful projects launched by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust were showcased at one of the industry’s biggest awards events.

The Trust was a multiple finalist in the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards, which recognise and reward outstanding efficiency and improvement by the NHS.

The Exeter Community Nursing Centre, Exeter cluster pharmacy team and orthopaedic department at North Devon District Hospital were shortlisted for the event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Transport operator Stagecoach has been named the best large bus operator in Britain.

The company’s operation in the south-west of England was named Large Bus Operator of the Year at the 2015 Route One Operator Excellence Awards in Birmingham.

It is the second consecutive year that a Stagecoach company has been awarded the Large Operator of the Year title after Stagecoach Midlands won the same accolade last year.
