Exeter firm supports Budding Friends project

Age UK Exeter is proud to be working in partnership with Living Space Architects

The Exeter based company, who design housing for retirement, later life and adapted living, were moved to read about the new Budding Friends project set up by Age UK Exeter.

The project provides stimulating and engaging activities for people recently diagnosed with dementia and their families.

The project has taken on an allotment and needed a shed, both to store equipment and to provide shelter from the elements for the older people working outdoors.

Spencer Cobby: Why I volunteer with Age UK Exeter

Exeter photographer Spencer Cobby has been volunteering with Age UK Exeter for just over a year. He first decided to contact the charity after a conversation with his neighbour Ann, herself a volunteer.

Upon speaking to Corinne Bailey, Development Manager at Age UK Exeter, it immediately became apparent that Spencer's skills would be put to good use.

Princesshay launches charity raffle

Age UK Exeter, Princesshay’s charity of the year, has launched its charity raffle of a new smart forfour car to raise money for local people. Tickets can be purchased from the centre with the draw being held on Christmas Eve.

Luke Yetman, General Sales Manager at Mercedes-Benz of Exeter said, “It is a privilege for Mercedes-Benz of Exeter to be associated with Age UK Exeter. Age UK Exeter 10k Race 2015

This is the only 10k Race in Exeter with a City Centre start and our 2015 route will take runners up the High Street, down Paris Street, Western Way and on to the Exeter Quayside.

From here it's a beautiful and flat stretch along rivers and canals finishing at the Piazza Terracina. This race will suit regular runners and beginners due to the relatively flat terrain. Download the route map here .

Free advice for the tough times in your life

People across Exeter can now benefit from a new range of self-help resources thanks to a city advice partnership.

Advice Exeter, a not for profit group made up of six local charities, has produced a range of ‘life events’ booklets as part of its strategy to improve services for local people.

The guides offer advice and information on the following topics: bereavement, illness and disability, job loss, new baby and relationship breakdown.

Exeter police donate festive treats to Age UK

Officers and staff in Exeter have been getting in the festive spirit by donating boxes full of Christmas goodies to elderly people this Christmas.

PC Chris Pusey started a Christmas collection at Heavitree Road police station in November.

Donations of food, drink and Christmas gifts came flooding in from officers and staff from the station and the police control room.

On Monday 15 December PC Pusey delivered 15 large boxes full of goodies to Kath at Age UK in Cowick Street (pictured).

Age UK launches search to find Digital Champion 2015

Actress June Whitfield has joined Age UK in a nationwide search to find the Charity’s Digital Champion of the Year for 2015, with the aim of inspiring the 4.8 million older people who have never been online, to give it a try.

Introducing ADVICE EXETER

ADVICE EXETER is a newly formed group of local charities offering free advice and information to local people.

Exeter CAB, Age UK Exeter, Young Devon, Shelter, Community Housing Aid and Homemaker Southwest have teamed up to improve the services they offer to people in Exeter. The partnership, which is funded jointly by Big Lottery Fund and the Cabinet Office, held a successful launch event at Exeter Community Centre in March.
