Sandford Orchards, producer of authentic cider created by combining tradition and innovation, is thrilled to have scooped three Gold and one Silver Taste of the West award for their 'cider done right'. This year's Gold Taste of the West awards have been awarded to their rugby themed cider Rib Tickler and two of their new vintage ciders: The General and Sandford Reserve. Indie restaurant Rusty Pig has been awarded gold in the latest round of the Taste of the West Awards.

The popular eaterie in Yonder Street received the accolade in the Restaurant category of the awards.

Rusty Pig founder, chef Robin Rea said: “We were quite a late entry into this year’s awards schedule, and the whole team is thrilled that we have been judged worthy of a gold.

Otter Nurseries jamming it up for gold

The kitchen team at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary is over the moon after their homemade raspberry jam scooped gold at this year’s Taste of the West Awards.

This is the first time the garden centre has entered these popular awards that celebrate the quality of local produce in the South West. Otter Nurseries entered two of its jams, and alongside the gold gong for the raspberry, the strawberry jam collected a highly commended award.

Exeter based Taste of the West, the South West’s regional food group, has signed up for Children’s Hospice South West’s £50 challenge in a double celebration of not only its own anniversary, but also 25 years of the charity.

Emma Grainger, Hospitality Awards Co-ordinator at Taste of the West, said: "The fact that 2016 marks the 25th Anniversary of both Taste of the West and Children’s Hospice South West, it seemed to make perfect sense to adopt them as our charity of the year.

Chunk's pies and pasties bring home the bacon

Devon-based pasty and pie maker, Chunk, is celebrating after winning six awards from Food & Drink Devon this week, bringing the company’s awards total to an impressive 66.

Its Chicken and Chorizo pasty scooped the coveted platinum award, as well as five of Chunk’s other products winning gold.

The Chunk team has earned a flurry of honours over the summer, both in regional and national awards, and the new accolades have secure its title as the most coveted pie and pasty operation in the country.

Cracking crab wins top accolade

FAMILY fishing firm Favis of Salcombe are celebrating after their crab meat was voted Supreme Champion Product in the Taste of the West Awards 2015.

The prestigious accolade was given to them after judges described their white crab meat as “outstandingly high quality.”

Favis of Salcombe have been sustainably fishing crab and lobster off South Devon since 1972. Last year they branched out into cooking and handpicking crab at their factory just outside Kingsbridge, before distributing it to some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the UK.

Killerton Kitchen restaurant strikes gold

The Killerton Kitchen restaurant has won gold in the prestigious ‘Taste of the West’ awards celebrating fantastic local food and drink in the South West.

The judges were highly impressed with the food and service, putting the restaurant on par with other’s in Devon such as the River Exe Cafe and Two Bridges.
