Celebrating the county's vibrant food and drink scene, Food Drink Devon hosted their first-ever Harvest Gathering on Friday 22nd September, inspired by the close proximity of three of the region’s highly respected drinks producers. Hunts Cider, Bays Brewery and Sandridge Barton the home of Sharpham Wine, who are all positioned a couple of miles from one another in South Devon, jointly hosted the Harvest Gathering and welcomed 50 guests from the region's food and drink industry as well as local media and influencers.

Holiday home income rises by 19% in South Devon

New research from leading holiday home company Classic Cottages, shows that 2021 was a record year for the self-catering industry in South Devon with search demand for holiday homes up by as much as 100%, compared to the last full year for bookings in 2019.

The report shows that average incomes for holiday homes in South Devon increased by 19% compared to 2019.

Racing ahead in terms of demand, Bigbury-on-Sea saw a 100% increase in site search traffic, followed by Salcombe, where property searches rose 67%, and Dartmouth, which witnessed a 48% rise in interest.

Buckfast Abbey offers rare opportunity for 12 Men to join its Holy Week Vocations Discernment Retreat

Buckfast Abbey, in South Devon, has announced that it will be celebrating Holy Week this year with an initiative to host twelve men who may be considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. In a first for the Abbey, the 12 men - reflective of the 12 disciples - will be invited to join the Monastic Community to share their journey through the holiest of weeks in the liturgical year.

The free guided retreat will give the twelve the opportunity to live with the Monastic Community, immersing themselves in, and participating in the sacred ritual of Holy Week.

Buckfast Abbey’s popular Christmas Market returns

Buckfast Abbey, in South Devon, has this week announced the line-up for its first Christmas Market in over two years. Taking place on Saturday 11th (10am-5.30pm) and Sunday 12th December (12.30-5.30pm), the market features more than 40 independent stalls ranging from crafts to local artisan food and drink producers.

PEOPLE living in south Devon who suffer from dementia can be cared for at home thanks to a specialist training scheme being run by a care provider in the area (June 2020).
