Radio 1's Big Weekend to bring £3.5m to local economy

Radio 1’s Big Weekend is set to bring £3.5million of benefits to the local economy, new figures reveal.

Teignbridge District Council and Exeter City Council have invested £100,000 each in the event, which will see 50,000 people enjoy some of the best acts in the world, for free, at Powderham Castle this May.

Dr Andrew Dean, from Innovation Impact and Business at the University of Exeter worked out the calculations in terms of both spend and marketing exposure.

He said the local authorities would be getting greater than 7 times their return on investment.

Record demand for South Devon Visitor guide

Visit South Devon’s newly available 2016 visitor’s guide is flying off the shelves following record levels of requests from visitors across the country. Figures released today reveal that demand up to the end of January alone was up 36% on the same period of 2015, and requests levels remain strong in February.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Exeter

BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw this morning announced that Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, Chase and Status, Bring Me the Horizon and Craig David will perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2016.

The news was announced on Nick’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show, with the DJ also revealing that Radio 1’s Big Weekend - the station’s flagship live music event - will be held in Exeter on 28th and 29th May.

Toby Buckland, horticulturalist, writer and TV presenter has announced the date for his 2016 garden festival at Powderham Castle.

The festival will run over two days, Friday and Saturday 29 and 30 April, from 10am-5pm.

Toby's festivals bring together gardening enthusiasts and specialist growers who share their considerable knowledge in a festive, friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
