Charities benefit to the tune of £145,000 thanks to Exeter Foundation

Following a successful year of fundraising, Exeter-based charities and projects are better off to the tune of over £145,000 thanks to donations from the Exeter Chiefs’ official charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Some £97,534.34 was given to projects who had applied for funds from the Exeter Foundation, including £10,000 towards a play area at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Bramble Ward, £25,000 for a new hydrotherapy pool at Vranch House and a £1,500 contribution for a new Volunteering in Health minibus.

Exeter Chamber Christmas charity auction success

Exeter Chamber of Commerce raised just under £1000 for 6 local charities at this year’s Christmas charity auction lunch, which was held at the Mercure Southgate Hotel. The auctioneer for the charitable event was Marc Ryan, presenter at Heart FM.

Items for auction included a Kindle Paperwhite, a Boeing 737-800 flight experience voucher, a vest worn by four-time Olympian, Jo Pavey, and the opportunity for two people to meet the Black Rhinos at Paignton Zoo.

Cyclists raise £12,000 for Exeter charities

A team of cyclists from Moshulu in Honiton have raised 12,400 for two Devon based charities by cycling 1,200 miles across the length of the country from John O'Groats to Lands End.

Father and son Neal and Matt Fulls and their friend Chris Pope took nine days in June to cycle from the tip of Scotland to the most westerly point in Cornwall in aid of their chosen charities – the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and FORCE Cancer Charity.

Law firm donates theatre tickets to charities

The Family Law Company, sponsors of The Bike Shed Theatre's Christmas show, are giving fifty tickets to local charities this Christmas.

Working with Families for Children and Children’s Hospice South West, young children and their carers will enjoy an original theatre production followed by popcorn and drinks at a special party on 10 December, provided by the local law company.

Princesshay’s Roman Walk will be sparkling with festive cheer as the centre hosts its third Charity Christmas Tree Festival.

The festival, which aims to raise both awareness and funds for local charities, will be opened with a celebratory light switch-on by the Lord Mayor of Exeter at 5pm on Friday 20 November. Pret A Manger will be opening the doors to its westernmost UK shop next month; a spacious corner site on Exeter’s High Street. Due to open mid-September, the new shop is creating up to 20 new jobs, which the company is currently finalising recruitment for. Exeter photographer Spencer Cobby has been volunteering with Age UK Exeter for just over a year. He first decided to contact the charity after a conversation with his neighbour Ann, herself a volunteer.
