MULTI-MILLION pound attraction Seaton Jurassic has scooped a major architecture award for the best leisure and hospitality project of the year.

The flagship centre, designed by Plymouth firm Form Design, cost £4 million to build and has smashed visitor expectations in the year since it was opened.

History of much loved East Devon parks and gardens will be captured for posterity thanks to Heritage Lottery Fund award of £9,500

Interpretation panels for each of East Devon District Council’s eight parks and gardens are currently being developed by the council using information provided by local museums and local community members/groups. Devon Freemasons have donated £7,500 to Devon Community Foundation to help support people in need across the county. Last week the Chief Executive DCF, Martha Wilkinson was delighted to be presented with the cheque by Ian Kingsbury, the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire Freemasons.

The generous gift brings the total donated over the last 4 years to £27,000 and will be allocated to the Foundation’s Community Grants, supporting hundreds of voluntary and community groups offering local people in need a helping hand.

Volunteers and Countryside rangers welcome nesting kestrels to Seaton's local nature reserve

In the spirit of spring cleaning, the East Devon District Council Countryside team, with the support of three volunteers, has replaced a kestrel box at Seaton Wetlands. Seaton Wetlands is a popular breeding ground for kestrels and has several boxes located across the reserve. These boxes are mounted high on poles and are therefore challenging to check, clean and repair. Seaton Wetlands local nature reserve has an off-road mobility Tramper which is available to hire for those with limited mobility.

East Devon District Council's Countryside service, which runs Seaton Wetlands is asking members of the public to help come up with a name for the Tramper vehicle.

All entries are to be submitted to the team by Wednesday 1 March. The team will put the selection of names up for public vote on social media. The winning name will be announced on Friday 10 March 2017, to mark the start of the national Disabled Access Day weekend.

The Seaton Down Hoard Roman Roadshow will be at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum’s (RAMM) on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February 2017.

Buried in East Devon around AD350 and only discovered in 2013, the Seaton Down Hoard is made up of 22,888 coins and three iron ingots. It is the fourth largest hoard of Roman coins ever found.

Saving it for Devon was made possible by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clinton Estates, a private donation by Patrick Long, and many contributions by members of the public. To celebrate its return, a Roman Roadshow is touring Devon.
