What to expect from the BierKeller in Exeter

Since opening in February, the BierKeller has already become a hit in Exeter.

The bar has been busy since day one, with people getting involved in events in the true Bavarian style.

Located on Exeter’s Quay, the Bavarian bar brings entertainment each night of the week.

The week kicks off with the BierKeller’s first student night on a Monday; people can expect £4 beers served in a traditional Bavarian mug.

A second student night takes place on a Tuesday, with 2-4-1 stein cocktails and the chance to take part in bandeoke.

On a Wednesday night, the bar...

Exeter Quay footbridge closed for repairs following safety concerns

Exeter City Council has closed a footbridge that straddles a leat off the River Exe at Exeter’s Quayside because of safety concerns.

An inspection found that repairs need to be carried out to the Mallison footbridge. A diversion has been set up for users of the footbridge and the Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure.

The footbridge, which links one side of the Quay behind Exeter Antiques Centre on the Quay to the footpath leading up to bridge across the River Exe, will now be out of operation for a number of weeks while repairs are carried out...

Abandoned Quay warehouses could be transformed into pop-up venue

New developments have just been announced for The Bike Shed Theatre’s plans to create a new venue in Exeter’s historic Quayside.

For sixteen weeks this summer a new lease of life could be given to the historic Maclaines Warehouses on Exeter’s Quay. Most recently occupied by the Maritime Museum, the Grade II listed site has been empty for over eighteen years. Now though, a series of pop up events could turn the abandoned warehouses into a space for creativity, culture and cocktails.

The Bike Shed Theatre’s Director, David Lockwood, said: ‘This summer represents a vital stage...

Carols on the Quay a success

Exmouth Quay’s annual concert of traditional Christmas carols held on Sunday 11 December was a huge success with well over a hundred people joining in the fun.

Property developer Eagle One, who built most of the quayside homes and are just completing the last 14 apartments at The Point, is the main sponsor of the event. Other traders at the Quay provide help with the fund-raising and the event...

Works to reduce flood risk in Exeter continue

From 7 November, BMM JV, working on behalf of the Environment Agency, will divert cables and water mains on the Quayside to make way for the installation of concrete piles to support the flood gates outside the waterfront.

Work will also start on temporary defences – barriers that can be put up when flooding is likely – which follow the line of the existing bollards at the quay. New bollards will hold the barriers in place during a flood. Foundations for this work will need a lot of space – so large excavation notices will be put in place. Cobbles and existing paving will be...
