Gallery 21 Exhibition: Wasted

This exhibition explores the life-giving potential of ‘discarded’ body parts and their relationship to myths, history, cutting edge stem cell research and notions of what constitutes informed consent.

The art works are sculptural, incorporating milk teeth donated by children and bones and fat from living, consenting donors.

Gillian Ayres: Paintings and Prints 1986 to 2011

This exhibition features the printmaking of Gillian Ayres, one of the leading British abstract artists of her generation. As well as the vibrant, heavily-worked canvasses for which she is best known, Gillian is also a dedicated printmaker.

Born in 1930, Gillian Ayres studied at Camberwell College of Art between 1945 and 1950. She worked initially in London and then went on to teach at the Bath Academy in Corsham, Saint Martins School of Art and finally became Head of Painting at Winchester School of Art. Thanks to the Friends of Exeter Museums & Art Gallery, paintings of Dartmoor in RAMM’s forthcoming Widgery exhibition will be displayed in beautifully gilded frames.

The frames are being conserved by a small team of conservators and conservation students in the RAMM Conservation Laboratories between 28 May and 3 June and their progress can be followed on storify, or on Twiitter #moorgold.

This new exhibition will feature mixed craft work by ten makers who have won awards at the Contemporary Craft Festival, which celebrates its 10th birthday in Bovey Tracey this year.

South Devon based experts in tourism, hospitality and marketing have signed up to offer a FREE speed mentoring service in English Tourism Week in 2013.

The Speed Mentoring event forms part of the English Riviera Tourism and Business Conference at Torquay’s Riviera International Conference Centre on 21st March 2013 being organised by the English Riviera Tourism Company.

The mentoring team will be giving bite size chunks of information about hot topics, delivered on a one to one basis, to tourism businesses who just want to pick up new tips or ask a few critical questions....

Exeter-based professional photographer Mark Gawthorne of Evolve Photography is exhibiting a series of photographs he took to commemorate 25 years since the world's worst nuclear accident in Chernobyl and Prypiat.

The haunting photographs showing the deserted towns are on display from 3rd to 28th February at Cafe 36 in Cowick Street, St Thomas - ironically where Mark began his photographic career 23 years ago at the former studio PK Photography. Mark now works as a freelance photographer.

Watching television just this week I saw Will-i-am’s new music video Scream and Shout ft Britney Spears, which includes a section of the 3D printing in action, building a human face before the viewers’ eyes. With the media picking up on this exciting new method it is clear 3D printing is bursting onto the scene and is becoming ever more popular.
