Exeter Chiefs back-row Dave Ewers has shrugged off the disappointment of missing out on a place in England’s 50-man World Cup training squad and insists his season has still been a success.

Despite overwhelming support from World Cup winner Neil Back after a fine season at Sandy Park, Ewers was omitted from Red Rose head coach Stuart Lancaster’s initial plans.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed elsewhere though, with Ewers among the five-man shortlist for the Green Flag forward of the season gong at the Aviva Premiership awards evening on Wednesday.

And though the...

At Twickenham, six-year-old Harry Westlake sang the National Anthem and inspired a Nation. Now the Plymouth youngster finds out about the true power of support and what it’s really like to ‘wear the rose’ from his giant England Rugby heroes.

Ahead of this weekend’s final Six Nations match against France, England’s biggest (little) fan interviewed Dylan Hartley, Luther Burrell and Kieran Brookes.

Harry asked the questions that really needed asking - how it feels to play at Twickenham, how strong they are, how fans make them feel, their biggest fears, their nicknames and...

Exeter Chiefs fly half Henry Slade is included in the England squad preparing to face Scotland in the RBS 6 Nations clash on Saturday after Brad Barritt was ruled out of the reminder of the tournament.

The Devon-born 21 year-old, who has featured impressively at inside and outside centre for his club this term, replaces unlucky Barritt after the Saracens centre who suffered an ankle sprain against Wasps on Sunday.

With Sunday's Leicester Tigers vs Newcastle Falcons match also affecting the availability of players to train, Bath Rugby hooker Rob Webber comes in for Tom...

Winter likely to have been sunniest since 1929

This winter is very likely to be a record breaker. Provisional Met Office statistics show that the UK has had its sunniest winter in records dating back to 1929.

While the figures for temperature and rainfall are fairly average, it has been one of, if not the sunniest winter in UK records dating back to 1929.

By 25 February the UK had already seen 189 hours of sunshine, equalling the 2001 record, but with 3 more days left to the end of the meteorological winter we are likely to beat that record by about 7 hours.

This is in stark contrast to last winter, which was...

Stuart Lancaster has named Jack Nowell in his starting side to face Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 3pm, live one BBC One).

Another new face is full back Alex Goode, who starred in the 12-6 triumph last time England were in Dublin, starts his first Test for two years after replacing Harlequins' Mike Brown.

Nowell – in scintillating domestic form with Exeter Chiefs – is preferred to Gloucester Rugby's Jonny May as the only two unbeaten teams in the RBS 6 Nations go head-to-head.

In the only other change to the England match-day 23 that defeated Italy...
