The Cycling Whatever The Weather campaign has been backed by local cycling charity Ride On – Cycling for All and Exeter City Futures and sponsored by Exeter solicitors Cartridges Law.

Mick, who only took to the bike in the first lockdown in March, said he wanted people to consider cycling as an alternative to driving wherever possible. He added: “As a previously ‘diesel polluting school...

We warmly invite you to our online event A green recovery: the future of transport in Exeter, with speakers including Ben Bradshaw MP.

Transport accounts for around one third of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, with the vast majority coming from road transport - cars, vans and HGVs. At the same time, Devon and Exeter face significant transport challenges, both in terms of sustainability and accessibility.

The UK government has committed itself to the largest ever UK road building project – costing £27bn of taxpayers’ money over the next five years. So in the run up to key...

Councillors support making some active travel measures permanent

Councillors have supported proposals for a number of “pop-up” measures to support walking and cycling in Exeter to be made permanent, and to carry out public consultation on some of the other arrangements in the city.

Devon County Council introduced a series of temporary measures in the city and other parts of the county in June, using a £338,000 allocation from the government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund. Social distancing requirements have reduced public transport capacity and the changes mirror the County Council’s proposed strategic cycle routes, providing safer routes for...

Bridge lifted into place at Summer Lane in Exeter

The expanding cycle network in Exeter received another lift at the weekend, with the installation of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The new bridge at Summer Lane completes the first two kilometres of Devon County Council's E4 cycle route - providing a vital connection between Exeter Arena/Exhibition Fields and Bettysmead Playing Fields.

It establishes a direct link which will shorten the route and will remove sharp deviations in direction, narrow shared paths, and the necessity to use a Toucan crossing on Summer Lane.

The 18-metre span pedestrian and cycle...

Three Devon schools to make more space for social distancing during school run

Three schools across Devon County Council will be making more space outside their gates at pick up and drop off time as pupils return this term.

The School Streets schemes will restrict motor traffic at specific times to make more space for social distancing during the school run.

The schemes are being delivered by the schools and Devon County Council in partnership with walking and cycling charity Sustrans. They are being funded through a grant from the Department for Transport's Emergency Active Travel Fund.
