Professional cyclists from Team UK Youth are relishing the prospect of being part of an historic Devon Stage of The Tour of Britain.

As The Tour celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, Devon County Council will mark the occasion by hosting the first ever summit finish in the modern era of the race on Friday 20 September.

Stage Six of this year’s Tour will head from sea to summit, as it starts in Sidmouth on the Jurassic Coast and finishes at Haytor in Dartmoor National Park.

Tour of Britain design competition hits the spot with cycling fans

Devon school children have the opportunity to design the famous ŠKODA King of the Mountains Jersey for this year’s Tour of Britain.

The “Polka Dot Jersey”, as it is often referred to, is awarded to the best climber in the race and the official jersey sponsor ŠKODA is offering one student the chance to see their design made and worn during The Tour.

Devon has been highlighted in the All Party Parliamentary Group’s “Get Britain Cycling” inquiry report.

Devon will make history as the first stage of The Tour of Britain to host a summit finish when Britain’s premier cycle race returns to the county in September to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Multi-million pound boost to Devon’s economy

More than £7.3 million was injected into Devon’s economy from this year’s Tour of Britain cycle race.

Devon’s Bikeability programme has hit the landmark figure of having trained 20,000 children in the county in cycling proficiency.

The county council-funded scheme, launched in 2006, is designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.
