Sing for Fun Exeter is not a choir!

Early in 2007, the new St Sidwell's School, York Road, Exeter opened its doors and Forever Young were the first community group to use the new hall.

The days are now over when singers used to gather around a TV and read lyrics from the screen. Now, many people who come along also sing with formal choirs but like the informal Sing for Fun sessions. Meeting on a Monday, 7-9pm, singers choose from over 600 backing tracks and then sing around 30 songs as the words are projected on the wall.

There are no auditions, rehearsals or public concerts - just singing for fun. Comments...

There are only days left to get your entries in for St David’s Neighbourhood Partnership (SDNP)’s photographic competition.

The competition – called 'Scene in St David’s' – is open to all St David’s residents and offers a £100 top prize, and £50 for the runner up – plus the same for under-16s. Alongside views of the area, entrants are asked to describe why the place in their photograph is special to them. The competition will be judged by a panel of regional arts and community professionals, it closes on 4th January and the winners will be announced at the SDNPs AGM in February....

Green fingered volunteers are improving gardens, streets and green spaces all over Exeter for this years’ RHS Britain in Bloom competition. Four ‘Village’ entries from St David's, St Thomas, St James and Wonford will each be working to achieve top awards for their neighbourhood.

Santander donation boosts education for deaf children

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has received £2,220 to fund new equipment for its Sensory Pod to support students’ physical and emotional development needs.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

The much needed equipment includes a touch activated bubble tube, a UV lamp, soft play items and a play tunnel. The donation supports the work of the Deaf Academy’s Occupational Therapy Team who are already starting to see positive results as the...
