Let there be light! Exeter Scientists urging us to Race for Life

This group of researchers from Devon are leading the way in transforming how cancers are detected and treated by harnessing the power of light.

The team, who receive funding through Cancer Research UK, are encouraging people to take part in Race for Life this summer and help fund more life-saving research.

Their innovative use of Raman Spectroscopy, which is based upon the interaction of light with the chemical bonds within a material, is forging a better understanding of treating cancers earlier.

Stagecoach staff raise funds at World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event

Stagecoach South West has raised £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, following a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at the Exeter depot.

Staff were able to enjoy a morning cuppa with colleagues, along with a tempting selection of homemade cakes and treats, all of which were available for a small donation to Macmillan.

Fundraising for World Suicide Prevention Day and World Mental Health Day today

A £325 share of £1300.00 has been raised by a grateful attendee of Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide 'Sobs' Exeter, and has been presented to co-incide with today's World Mental Health Day.

Monies were from a raffle started on the 10th September 2018 (World Awareness of Suicide Preventation Day), and are being split equally between the Samaritans Taunton, Mind Taunton & West Somerset, Sobs UK and Sobs Exeter.

Cyclists raise over £5,300 for local charity

A determined team of local people have raised an impressive £5,357 so far, after cycling the length of the country for Exeter-based charity Rainbow Living.

Over 11 days, the team spent an average of 8 hours in the saddle every day as they cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End; overall they covered 950 miles and climbed over 51,000 feet – and burnt more than 38,000 calories!

Family Law Chooses Citizens Advice Exeter as Charity of the Year

The Family Law Company has announced that it will be supporting leading local advice charity Citizens Advice Exeter over the coming year.

The company’s branches in Exeter, Plymouth and Taunton will all be fundraising for the charity, through events such as skittles, bake offs and cream teas.

Educated Recruitment conquer Exmouth 10k

Educated Recruitment conquered the Exmouth 10k fundraising for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The Educated Recruitment Team ran the Bradley’s Exmouth 10k on Sunday (30 September) to raise money for Ronald McDonald’s House Charities.

Exeter ‘prisoners’ released after raising £11,000 bail

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) held its annual Jail and Bail fundraising event in Exeter Castle on Friday, which raised over £11,000 for the local children’s charity.

Seven local business people took part in the event which involved individuals getting arrested and put on trial for fictitious crimes including noise pollution, being a Bristol Bears fan in Exeter Chief’s territory and being the world’s worse dancer!

Exeter resident Katie Dicker enjoyed a day to remember on Saturday 15 September when she got to meet her hero, Formula 1 legend Nigel Mansell CBE. Local charity, Dream-A-Way, wanted to thank Katie for taking to her specially adapted trike last month and raising over £2,100 for the charity – which provides holiday grants and trips for people with physical and learning disabilities. Residents and staff welcomed popular presenter, Judi Spiers and her much-loved sidekick Gus Honeybun, to The Old Vicarage Residential Care Home in the picturesque village of Otterton.
