Exeter set for International Ideas Festival

An international Ideas Festival for Business, held in London and New York is coming to Exeter, it was announced today.

The influential Like Minds Ideas Festival will arrive in Exeter in September, with business leaders and speakers from the US, Europe and the UK taking part.

It will be held at Exeter Castle on Friday September 29th, after a speakers and sponsors welcome dinner the evening before. Some 250 delegates will hear from international business speakers, take part in immersive masterclasses and debate with renowned business experts during panel sessions and lunches...

Exeter expert delivers talk to UN on ocean plastic pollution

A marine pollution expert from the University of Exeter has given a high level presentation at the United Nations headquarters, in New York.

Professor Tamara Galloway, an eco-toxicologist in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, delivered the presentation at the recent Open-ended Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (ICP-17) session on Marine Debris, Plastics and Microplastics.

Students of Exeter College got a taste of the big apple this month as 39 students of the Media faculty jetted off across the pond, drawn in by the bright lights of one of the most revered global hubs for media and entertainment. Rock legend Lou Reed dies aged 71

Lou Reed, the singer, guitarist and songwriter and a key figure in the history of rock music through his work both solo and with The Velvet Underground, has died at the age of 71.

Reed had a liver transplant earlier this year, and his literary agent said he died of a "liver-related ailment".

Community marches for Kimani Gray in East Flatbush, New York

On Sunday afternoon a march was held in memory of Kimani Gray, a 16-year-old boy killed by police in a shooting in East Flatbush on March 9th.

New York: Bomb scare closes Wall Street

Wall Street in Manhattan was reportedly closed off by police due to a suspected bomb scare on Friday morning.

People at the scene reported a high police presence, and images shared show police tape cordoning off the surrounding areas.

Police and protesters clashed in East Flatbush, in Brooklyn, on Monday night as residents held a candlelit vigil for a sixteen-year-old shot dead by police on Saturday.

Kimani Gray was shot 11 times after allegedly pointing a gun at officers. However, witnesses to the incident claim that Gray was not armed, and was 'running for his life' when his was fatally shot.
