It's been an incredibly torrid time for The Editors. For any band, losing such an incredible talent as Chris Urbanowicz is a potentially fatal blow, but for Tom, Russell and Ed, through losing their lead guitarist they also lost an incredibly close friend.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Ed Lay and default 'new kid' Justin Lockey just hours before their show at Exeter's Great Hall, one of many stops on their UK & Ireland Tour which will come to an end at the end of the month. I wanted to find out how the band was coping with the change from 4 piece to 5 piece and what's...

BSO: Paul Lewis Plays Brahms

Event Date:
11/04/2013 - 7:30pm
Venue:
The Great Hall, Exeter University

Works Performed: Schubert: Rosamunde Overture Beethoven: Symphony No.8 Brahms: Piano Concerto No.1

The overture used to accompany Chézy’s unsuccessful play Rosamunde was actually composed for an earlier play. It remains one of Schubert’s finest orchestral pieces, filled with ingratiating tunes and demonstrating his characteristic warmheartedness and good humour. Beethoven created the sparkling Eighth Symphony at a time when his life...

Mendelssohn : The Hebrides Overture

Beethoven : Piano Concerto No.1

Brahms : Symphony No.1

Conductor Karl-Heinz Steffens, soloist John Lill (piano)

Fingal’s Cave opens with a mesmerizing rhythmic figure that transforms a delicately embellished downward arpeggio into an undulating melody. As this theme unfolds, extended crescendos and diminuendos in the winds and brass give the impression of ocean swells before gradually giving way to an exquisitely lyrical statement sung by cellos and bassoons. A thrilling storm scene is coloured by fanfares and evocations...
