A unique collection of rarely seen photographs showing stars such as Judy Garland and Laurence Olivier making some of British Cinema’s most-loved films can be seen for the first time.

The photographs show actors – also including Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers – on set preparing for shooting or relaxing between takes. They capture behind the scenes in Judy Garland’s last film, child stars rehearsing while making Oliver! and the cast of Richard III sweltering in full armour while shooting in Spain.

Exeter School Alumnus film maker seeks funding for film on mental health in boxing

Film producer and 2014 leaver Owain Astles is working on a film which will be premiered at the Exeter Phoenix's Two Short Nights Film Festival on 1st - 2nd December and is keen to seek funding. The Hardest Fight is a short film, commissioned by Exeter Phoenix, which follows a young boxer struggling with depression, in the lead up to their first fight. The Darkness of the Moor film premiers on Dartmoor

The Devon media premiere of The Darkness of the Moor took place this week at the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre in Princetown, Devon.

This latest film from One Big Mop Productions is set entirely on Dartmoor and is a horror thriller about the moor itself and surrounding legends. Filming completed in March this year.

120 people attended the event including the cast, crew and representatives from several local organisations involved in the production.

The event also coincided with the media launch of the film’s own exhibition which will continue indefinitely...

The San Miguel Picturehouse Pop-Up comes Double Locks, Exeter for a weekend of outdoor cinema.

The screenings take place in the open, with a limited number of deckchairs available on a first come first served basis. There will also be cardboard ‘bumbox’ seating available for sale but feel free to bring along small picnic chairs – however these must be placed towards the rear of the cinema area.

This is a fully licensed and catered event so no alcohol, food and drink is to be brought in from outside.

Firearms officers issued with Body Worn Video cameras

Today (Wednesday 17 March) sees the deployment of Body Worn Video (BWV) which is being issued to 270 Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs), across Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police.

The rollout of the cameras follows a successful trial and public consultation.

The cameras will be issued to all firearms officers and represent a significant development in the use of technology to capture the best evidence for victims, and reduce the likelihood of victims and witnesses having to appear in court if an offender offers an early guilty plea. A special screening of a landmark film will be held to mark the 20th anniversary of Exeter's Bill Douglas Cinema Museum this week.

First released 30 years ago in 1987, Comrades was made by director and collector Bill Douglas and is now regarded as a masterpiece, following years when it wasn’t seen by film-goers. On Sunday 26 February, the Exeter branch of Families need Fathers are screening a revolutionary documentary about the so-called ‘Men’s Rights Movement’ at The Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre.
