New York: Bomb scare closes Wall Street

Wall Street in Manhattan was reportedly closed off by police due to a suspected bomb scare on Friday morning.

People at the scene reported a high police presence, and images shared show police tape cordoning off the surrounding areas.

Over an hour after the initial bomb scare sources have revealed that it is thought that a 'hoax' device caused the scare. (NewsPoint)

David Cameron has welcomed the election Jorge Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, as the new Pope, saying it is a "momentous day" for Catholics around the world.

Rohingya refugees who spoke out over Thai shooting of boat people disappear

Five men who spoke to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with regards to claims of the Thai military massacring Rohingya refugees have themselves been reported missing.

The five men - all Rohingya refugees - reported members of the Thai military shot at defenceless Rohingya refugees, allegedly killing 15 people travelling in boats in the Andaman Sea coast north of Phuket.

Police and protesters clashed in East Flatbush, in Brooklyn, on Monday night as residents held a candlelit vigil for a sixteen-year-old shot dead by police on Saturday.

Kimani Gray was shot 11 times after allegedly pointing a gun at officers. However, witnesses to the incident claim that Gray was not armed, and was 'running for his life' when his was fatally shot.

Record 86% Turn Out for Kenyan Elections

It has been reported that Uhuru Kenyatta has won the Kenyan elections with just over 50.07% of the vote and will be the 4th President of Kenya by a slim margin.

Thousands of people are reported to have gathered at the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem on Friday in protest of an 'Israeli invasion' of the site on Wednesday.

Eight Jewish settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli police on Wednesday. The settlers prayed in front of the mosque before clashes broke out with Palestinian Muslims.

Following a two-year battle with cancer, the long-standing President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, has died, his vice-president has announced.

Maldives: Male tense as protest follows arrest of former President

Hundreds of protesters have gathered in Male, the capital of the Maldives, following the arrest on Tuesday morning of former President and leader of the Maldives Democratic Party, Mohamed Nasheed.

More than 50,000 people are expected to gather in St Peter's Square later today for Pope Benedict XVI's final general audience the day before he becomes the first pontiff in 600 years to step down since Pope Gregory XII abdicated in 1415.

Activists protest Apple working conditions outside Hong Kong store

Students and activists gathered outside Apple's flagship store in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, on Tuesday to protest what they claim to be 'poor working conditions' in Apple factories in China.

Recent investigations in 2012 by New York-based China Labor Watch found that working conditions in factories suppliers to Apple in southern and eastern China uncovered violations of workers' rights, including excessive overtime and low wages.
