People are being reminded that they can have their say on plans for a new bus station in Exeter at an open forum today Thursday (3 March).

Exeter City Council will be holding the event at the Corn Exchange in Exeter between 8am and 5.30pm.

The Council want to hear from members of the public and interested groups to inform the concept design of the new bus station. The Council want to hear people's views on:

• user facilities • coach arrangements • on street bus stops • arrangements during construction

Bluebird Care Exeter staff recognised for achievements and long service

Last week Exeter based home care provider Bluebird Care, celebrated and recognised its staff for their achievements and service milestones.

Stagecoach extends discount for young people

Young people across the UK will to continue to benefit from lower bus fares after Stagecoach extended a national offer.

Following the successful introduction of a £2 Dayrider ticket for under 19s, the offer has been extended for a further six weeks to allow young people to benefit over the Easter period. More than 300,000 tickets offering unlimited travel within local regions were sold across the country during February.

Fire crews tackle blaze near Exeter

A house in Silverton was badly damaged by fire on Wednesday evening (2 March).

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a property in Poundsland shortly after 8pm.

Two appliances from Exeter were sent to the scene. Upon arrival crews requested further pumps which came from Topsham, Tiverton and Crediton, along with the command unit from Honiton.

The fire involved a two storey house, garage and a gymnasium.

The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental; crews had extinguished the fire by midnight.

Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant when buying items from free advertising sites such as Gumtree.

The warning comes after several incidents have been reported to police in the Exeter, Lympstone and Brixham areas.

Suspects have been advertising white goods for sale on internet websites and delivering the items to customers. However, when the items are delivered they are not of the description that was advertised on the adverts.

£1.5m to train tomorrow’s scientists and engineers

The Government is investing £1.5 million in the University of Exeter, to train the next generation of innovators in physical science subjects.

The cash boost will contribute towards funding up to 22 additional PhD studentships, offering sector-leading training and development alongside Exeter’s outstanding facilities and resources. The studentships will be within the key discipline areas of Physics, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.

Exeter man wanted on warrant

Police are trying to trace 36-year-old man who is wanted on Warrant after he breached his court order.

Jamie Drew (pictured), is outstanding on a Warrant which was issued in August 2015 by Exeter Crown Court.

Local enquiries are being conducted to try and trace and arrest him but members of the public are being asked to report any sightings.

He is described as white, 5ft 11ins tall, cropped brown hair and tribal tattoos on his forearms. He also has a west country accent.

Drew is believed to be in the Tiverton, Exeter or the Bristol area.

M5 crashes cause traffic chaos

Motorists faced delays on the M5 in Devon this morning (2 March), following a number of crashes.

The road was gridlocked on the north-bound carriageway between Junction 29, A30 (Exeter) and Junction 28, A373 (Cullompton).

Witness Drew Aspinwall told the Daily a number of emergency vehicles were in attendance and that the scene was chaotic.

The crashes happened as Exeter was lashed by heavy rain, hail and strong winds.

There were no injuries reported and traffic flow had returned to normal by noon.

Gusts of more than 45mph are forecast for later today...
