Volunteers at Exeter Foodbank, took time out of their busy schedule this week to join in a fantastic hot chocolate party courtesy of GALAXY Hot Chocolate.

Exeter Foodbank was chosen to receive a fantastic hamper of GALAXY goodies to mark the fifth anniversary of the philanthropic campaign, the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund, and to recognise the charity’s amazing work in the local community.

In the last year Exeter Foodbank has distributed 45,000 kgs of food to 4,580 people of whom 1,072 were children.  All food was donated by local people and more than 100 local people volunteer regularly at the Foodbank. Local schools, businesses and faith groups have provided vital support to the foodbank, enabling the centre to give three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced food together with support to local people in crisis.

Joy, Foodbank Manager, says: “Many more adults and children have received emergency food and support from Exeter foodbank in the last 12 months. This means our volunteers have been working extremely hard to ensure all food is processed and ready for our users. The party supplied by the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund meant we could come together as a team and celebrate the hard work our volunteers do within the community.”

Research commissioned by GALAXY Hot Chocolate revealed that two thirds (68%) of the nation have never given up their time to volunteer despite almost the same number (65%) saying that they really admire people that give up their time to volunteer.

The survey also discovered that the average Brit benefits from the acts of volunteers about 26 times a year, which is a phenomenal accolade to these warm-hearted people and organisations.

Michelle Frost, spokeswoman for GALAXY Hot Chocolate said:  “Often simple acts of kindness cost nothing but have an immediate positive impact on both those giving and receiving the kind gesture.

“There are a huge number of volunteers and organisations that go out of their way to help their local community and the hot chocolate party is a small way to say thank you.”

GALAXY Hot Chocolate is lookng to help small, local community groups and charities across the UK and Ireland by donating cash awards to support warm-hearted people and projects through the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund.

Open for entries until February 28 2016, the Fund will distribute five £300 awards to deserving recipients every week.  Applications to the fund can be made on the GALAXY Hot Chocolate website www.galaxyhotchocolate.com.
