Critically-acclaimed Rhum and Clay Theatre Company present two shows at the Bike Shed Theatre in May.

64 SQUARES

1939. On board a decadent cruise liner, the world chess champion is challenged to a match by the mysterious ‘B’. It soon becomes clear that the game is not the only thing B’s at risk of losing. For he’s not just one person, but four. And they each have their own version of the story they want to tell.
With a live jazz percussive score, this is a tale of madness and memory, adapted from Stefan Zweig’s The Royal Game.

A Strange Wild Song

In northern France in the Second World War, three children encounter a lost American soldier in the ruins of their village. Decades later, the soldier’s camera is unearthed and his grandson tries to solve the mystery of the photographs inside. He discovers a world of childhood and imagination, as fragments of war explode into the present day.

Accompanied by an original, award-winning score, Rhum and Clay present a new version of their critically-acclaimed hit show. Fusing cinematic imagery, absurdist humour and a mischievous sense of joy, this is an unforgettably touching story about finding light in the darkest of places.
