Cowick & St Thomas PCSO and CityVets have teamed up to promote responsible pet ownership by offering microchips completely free of charge. This is all possible due to the PCSO securing POCA (Proceeds of Crime Act) funds.

The microchips will be supplied by Pet Identity. The great thing about Pet Identity is that you can update any future changes for free.

The offer is open to all species, all ages. There is no requirement to be an existing CItyVets client, the offer is open to everyone.

It's now compulsory that your dog should be micro chipped. Statistics (we like statistics) show that there are around 1.8 million dogs not chipped which makes them untraceable if they go missing. You just need to look on this site www.doglost.co.uk to see how common and frequent dogs do go missing.

As well as dogs going missing we also get the occasional dog that's been dumped, again having it legally chipped will help us ID the animal and owner.

Lost or stray dogs will be reunited with their owners thanks to new microchipping laws which come into effect to improve dog welfare today.

Under the new measures all owners must ensure their dog is microchipped and their details are kept up to date. Not only will this mean the UK’s 8.5 million dogs can be returned to their owners more quickly if they wander too far from home, but it will also make it easier to track down the owners of dogs that carry out attacks on people.

Already over 86% of responsible dog owners have had their pets painlessly implanted with a microchip...

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, has announced ambitious targets to offer free microchipping for all dogs thanks to its biggest award to date raised thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

In advance of microchipping becoming compulsory for dogs across England in April 2016, Dogs Trust is offering free microchipping at its 20 rehoming centres for all dogs and through special chipping events taking place across the UK.

ARC Animal Rescue Centre micro-chipping day

On Saturday 16 November a local animal welfare and re-homing charity, ARC Animal Rescue Centre, will be holding a micro-chipping day at Chineway Road, Ottery St Mary.

Microchips will soon become a legal requirement for ALL dogs and we are planning to offer micro-chipping to all the dogs in the area, especially, but not exclusively, targeted at dogs that have been previously re-homed through ARC.
