Jo Pavey to start Exeter's Great West Run

GO2, organisers of Exeter’s Great West Run, sponsored by Tozers, are pleased to announce four-time Olympian and European 10,000 metre champion Jo Pavey, as the official race starter at Exeter’s iconic event taking place on Sunday 18 October. Born in Honiton, Devon, Jo is a familiar face on the local running scene, as a member of Exeter Harriers Athletics Club.

The Chairman of East Devon District Council has congratulated Feniton-born athlete Jo Pavey on her third place in the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year (SPOTY) competition.

Councillor Graham Godbeer made his comments at a meeting of the full council on Wednesday evening (17 December), when he announced that he has written to her with an invitation to a civic function in February 2015.

Jo Pavey was born in Honiton and is a member of the Exeter Harriers.

Jo is a British long-distance runner. She won the 10,000 m gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich, ten months after giving birth to her second child, to become the oldest female European champion in history at the age of 40 years and 325 days.

Exeter athlete Jo Pavey was today celebrating after coming third in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

She was pipped to the post by golfer Rory Mcllroy in second and Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton who won the vote.

At the age of 40 and 325 days Jo became the oldest ever European champion. The distance runner returned to the track just eight months after giving birth to her second child.

Stars to light up Princesshay
