Acclaimed one-woman musical cabaret comes to Exeter

Writer and performer Rose Collis brings her acclaimed one-woman musical cabaret show to Exeter Library next week (Monday 15 Feb), as part of an Arts Council-funded tour for LGBT History Month 2016.

‘Trouser-Wearing Characters’ is the first ever musical cabaret show written and performed by a British female author. This original entertainment, written and performed by one of Sussex’s favourite personalities, is a unique mixture of music, history and comedy.

If you’ve wandered past the Christmas tree in Exeter Library you might have noticed the interactive flashing lights and Christmas carols playing from its branches. But did you know the tree was programmed by young coders from Exeter’s very own CodeClub?

FabLab Devon, in association with FabLab Plymouth at Plymouth College of Art, is offering a range of free FabLab digital fabrication laboratory workshops to members of the public, in FabLab Devon, which is based at Exeter Library, beginning on Monday 30 November.

The workshops will offer an introduction to FabLab processes through the use of cutting-edge technology such as 3D printing, 3D scanning, laser cutting and 3D design.

Exeter Library celebrates 50 years

Exeter library is celebrating its 50th birthday on October 22, and the public is being called on to join the festivities.

The library, then called the ‘New City Library’, was unveiled by the Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, on Friday 22 October 1965.

The opening followed the previous library, in Castle Street, being bombed in 1942.

Since then hundreds of thousands of people have passed through its doors and used its services.

And now, to mark the birthday celebrations, the public is being urged to share their memories and experiences.

The British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) and the South West Equality Network have announced that the Human Rights Tour 2015 will be coming to Exeter on 6 October for a Community Day.

Exeter Library’s free ‘Gadget Club’ offers help to anyone wanting to learn about how to use their smart phone, laptop or tablet, or those thinking of getting one and who want to find out more about them.

Exeter Library shortlisted for national award

Devon County Council’s flagship Exeter Library has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

New centre to boost business

Entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses in Devon are set to benefit from a unique new support service. Exeter Library has been chosen to pilot a Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs to start, run and grow their own businesses.
