Cuckoos and other moorland birds

Event Date:
16/05/2015 - 10:30am
Venue:
Haytor, Dartmoor

Join Dartmoor National Park Ecologist Naomi Barker on a walk in the Haytor area to see if you can get a glimpse of one of spring's most evocative birds. Cuckoos have suffered a huge population decline in recent years and in many parts of the country their distinctive call is no longer heard. Naomi will guide you on a fascinating walk in which you will learn more about the work being done to find out what is causing the population decline in this species.

You will also learn about other birds nesting on the moor, such as skylarks and yellowhammers.

Please bring binoculars...

Back by popular demand - another birdwatching event for children

East Devon District Council's Countryside team is delighted that the highly experienced birdwatcher Ian Waite has agreed to lead another ‘Birdwatching for Children’ event for us during February half term, following its huge popularity last October. “It’s great to encourage an interest in wildlife in children at an early age,” said Ian. “It can often develop into a lifelong passion and it’s something you can enjoy wherever you go.”

Space is limited, so booking is essential for this event, which will take place...
