Female Indian politician attacked by five drunk men

The National Secretary of India's main opposition party says she was attacked by five drunk men on a "fully jammed road in New Delhi in the night" in the country's capital.

Vani Tripathi, an actress and politician for the BJP said her attackers fled before police reached spot. Tweeting about the incident she said "Horrifying accident just got saved car smashed and on top of it five men tried to get inside my car all drunk..."

"Called 100 police did arrive but by the time they did if I had not locked myself in the car could've been dead, raped anything was possible!"

"Ugly part is as I locked myself in my car these hounds just rallied around my car as if I've done something wrong I'm amazed at the audacity" she tweeted.

Delhi has become widely in the spotlight after the December 2012 gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old girl. Tourism in the city has been affected too as foreigners, especially female travellers, feel less safe travelling. Foreign tourist arrivals have dropped 25 per cent since the December gang rape in New Delhi, and the number of female travellers fell by 35 per cent, according to the study by the New Delhi-based Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Ms Tripathi added that this wasn't the first time she has been attacked. "Years ago was attacked wrote about it to found closure in a magazine all those images came alive again I'm shocked, speechless and horrified".

She says had it not been for her driver, she feared the worse. "Yes my driver young chap was there who saved me from these monsters and kept a brave front". (NewsPoint)
