Exeter Junior School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating a successful week of selling products as part of the Virgin Make £5 Grow scheme.

The budding entrepreneurs from Year 6 made an impressive £1400, of which 75% goes to Comic Relief, Cancer Research UK and SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity).

The Year 6 pupils were set the challenge of setting up their own mini business from an initial loan of £5. The aim was to make as much profit as possible by marketing and selling their own products.

Maths Coordinator Jacquie Barnes said: "On Monday 20th (U2P), Tuesday 21st (U2G) and Friday 24th March (U2A), our wonderful Upper Two budding entrepreneurs had the chance to sell their products which they had worked so hard in their teams to dream up, design and make as part of their Independent Maths Project 2017.

"The weather threw sun, rain, wind and hail at us, but still their customers were greeted warmly, with great enthusiasm and tip top maths! They made us truly proud with their superb selling techniques, stamina, team work and excellent customer service.

Year 6 Form Tutor and Maths Teacher Paula Goldsworthy added: "Pupils from across the school visited each stall over break and lunch time, armed with their pocket money and a personalised bag, and very much enjoyed the range of items and activities available.

"Whether it was seeing how many mini eggs they could collect with chop sticks, how many goals they could shoot, trying out lucky dips, eating fresh pancakes, choosing which of the gorgeous painted stone paper weights to buy, apple-bobbing, tasting delicious cupcakes, enjoying mini-ginger bread people, squeezing stress balls or slurping fruit smoothies, picking up fabulous gifts for mothers' day and Easter or choosing personalised signs, there was something for everyone!"

The Year 6 pupils allowed their customers to view and pre-order items which meant that they already knew they had made a profit before sales day! As final payments for orders come in, it looks like we are very close to achieving an incredible profit of £1400!
