New Mamhead Slipway moves a step closer

The planning application for a new, improved public slipway at Mamhead View, Exmouth, has been submitted and should be considered for approval before the end of the year.

The existing slipway had to be closed in August 2012 for public safety reasons. Surveys showed that the fill material supporting the concrete slab of the slipway had been scoured away.

Specialist consultants have been employed to examine options for a replacement slipway, and to carry out the necessary geotechnical and environmental surveys needed to support a planning application.

The proposed replacement ramp is at the same location as the existing slipway, but it would be on a different alignment. This would allow creation of an area, off the public highway, for preparation to launch or recover craft. It would also remove the need for vehicles and trailers to make a 90-degree reversing manoeuvre on Mamhead View.

The plans submitted follow widespread consultation with water users, residents and the public, with the improved slipway being the preferred option.

Full details of the planning application and how to comment on it can be found on the East Devon District Council website www.eastdevon.gov.uk by going to the planning portal (application number 14/1768/FUL).

It is hoped that the application will be considered by EDDC’s Development Management Committee on 18 November 2014 and, subject to consent, work should begin in February 2015.
