Ed Courtney, home manager, Langford Park Care Home

Langford Park Care Home Appoints Young and Ambitious New Care Home Manager

Langford Park Care Home, situated just outside Exeter in Devon, has appointed Ed Courtney as its new home manager. Ed will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the 35-bed care home as well as overseeing the substantial modernisation and refurbishment project currently underway at Langford Park.

Ed has broad experience of all aspects of the care home sector.   His first job at 16 was as an activities co-ordinator in a care home, which was where he first realised his passion and talent for helping and supporting older people.

Ed later worked for a care consultancy, which helps care homes to develop and improve their services.  In this role Ed visited hundreds of homes across the country advising managers about staffing, introducing new systems and developing a positive working culture.  More recently Ed has been a change manager, supporting struggling homes in times of change and difficulty.  Incredibly, he managed to turn one home around from being rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission, to being ‘good’ in under six months.

In Ed’s new role as home manager at Langford Park he will head up a team of over 50 dedicated employees providing a range of high-quality care services, including residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care. Ed will also drive forward the major renovation project currently underway at Langford Park.   Significant investment in the interior and exterior of the home will see new lounge spaces and communal areas, a new dining room and furniture, a revamped hair dressing salon and even a new laundry.  Following consultation with the home’s residents, all the rooms are also being re-painted too.

Ed Courtney said:

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to be Langford Park’s new manager.  I am very ambitious for the home and my over-arching priority is to improve the lives of those living and working at Langford Park.

“I have a number of exciting plans for the home.  Keeping our residents stimulated and engaged is vital for example, and I have already hired two new activities co-ordinators who will get the residents out gardening, baking, doing yoga and on trips outside the home.  I will  ensure that our residents are central to decisions made about the home and the care they receive – which will always be top-quality.”

Langford Park Care Home is situated in a beautiful, rural setting just outside Exeter in Devon. Surrounded by fields, wildlife and farm animals, this unique nursing home in Exeter can accommodate up to 35 residents.
