A 50-year-old teacher from Exeter, who was inspired to run the London Marathon to help vulnerable children and young people proudly crossed the finish line on Sunday to raise hundreds of pounds for The Children’s Society.

Tracey Lloyd completed the gruelling 26.2 mile course in an impressive four hours and 22 minutes on Sunday 23 April to support the charity’s work with the most vulnerable children across the country who experience issues such as child sexual exploitation, poverty and neglect.

Tracey is passionate about helping young people – a cause that led her to run for the charity. She chose to take on this personal challenge for The Children’s Society because she feels The Children’s Society is a great charity which helps young people.  So far Tracey has raised £687.88 towards the charity’s work with vulnerable young people.

Reflecting on her personal challenge and determination to make a difference, Tracey said: “Crossing the finish line of this year’s London Marathon is a big personal achievement and I’m so proud to have supported such a vital cause. It feels amazing!

“Some parts of the race were really tough but I know those miles won’t be as challenging as the experiences some children have to face every day. Knowing I was helping vulnerable young people across the country pulled me through the hardest times. I have been overwhelmed with the support I have had, from people who I haven’t seen for 25 years, to my daughter who has been helping me with social media”

The Children’s Society’s Challenge Event Coordinator, Reena Ruda says: “Running the London Marathon is a truly amazing accomplishment and Tracey’s inspiring efforts will help to make a real difference to young people’s lives.  Tracey’s fundraising, along with all of our London Marathon runners, will support our vital work with children who often have nowhere left to turn.’
