On behalf of East Devon District Council, Councillor Frances Newth has today (6 March) presented a cheque for £150 to the Sid Valley Memory Café, which is Fields of Sidmouth’s charity of the year.

The council’s donation to the Sid Valley Memory Café is by way of a thank you to Fields for the provision of their excellent toilet facilities, which the public has been using while the council’s own toilet facilities in Market Place have been refurbished.

Councillor Frances Newth said: “I am delighted to give this cheque on behalf of the council to the Sid Valley Memory Café, which performs such a critical role in Sidmouth for people suffering from memory problems or dementia, as well as their family and friends. The Memory Café provides a warm, friendly welcome and much needed reassurance for its users. It’s a wonderful social meeting place that relies on personal donations, grants and fundraising activities.

“I am also pleased to confirm that the refurbishment work for the toilets was completed today (6 March) and they will be open again for public use from Saturday 7 March.”

Adrian Ford, a trustee for the Sid Valley Memory Café, said: “We really appreciate this support from East Devon District Council, because it is really needed in our area for people who have been diagnosed with dementia as well as their carers. I am delighted that Fields have been so proactive in raising money for the Sid Valley Memory Café. It is lovely to see local businesses getting so involved with the community.”
