Five-time Olympian and 2014 European 10,000m champion Jo Pavey today visited her former secondary school, The King’s School, Ottery St Mary, to present a commemorative piece of the London 2012 athletics track, that she and so many other Olympic legends raced on four years ago.

The 43 year-old from Honiton, East Devon, presented a large, decorative framed piece of the track to the school as a memento of her sporting achievements. The mother of two was also presented with a piece of the track.

The London 2012 track that Pavey ran alongside athletics stars such as Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Usain Bolt on has been removed and replaced ahead of the London 2017 IAAF World Championships and World Para-Athletics Championships next summer

Pieces of the original London 2012 track have been made into a range of exclusive sporting memorabilia and are available to purchase from london2012track.com.

During her visit to The King’s School, Pavey said: “I am delighted to be here today to present my old school with this beautiful piece of track from London 2012.

“When I was a student at The King's School, they inspired me to get into distance running. It was my PE teacher who first introduced me to running longer distances when she asked me to run around the playing fields at the school. It was here that I first discovered my love of running and I would like to thank the school for helping me start my career.”

Rob Gammon, Head of The King’s School said: “We would like to thank Jo so much for returning here today to offer us a gift that we will cherish forever and we hope that it will encourage many of our students to aspire to the successes of the stars of London 2012.”

David Edmonds, Chair of E20 Stadium LLP said: “It is great that we are able to present pieces of the iconic track to local schools, as well as some of our greatest ever athletes in order to inspire the nation and give them all a unique memory of London 2012, where we saw so much history made. We hope that The King’s School enjoys having this piece of the track take pride of place and perhaps one day the school can produce further athletics stars such as Jo.”

The public is being given the chance to own a piece of the iconic London 2012 track after it was successfully removed from the former Olympic Stadium.

The majority of the track is available for people to buy at £60 for a framed piece of track (120mm x 75mm set mounted into a 203mm x 152mm piece of acrylic.)

There is also the opportunity to purchase ‘Track in a Box’ - a beautifully presented gift or memento from London 2012 with a 260mm x 160mm piece of track sitting in its own commemorative box. The track sits inside a piece of laser cut foam which surrounds a zinc etched plaque adding authentication to the purchase. This will be available for £99.

A personalised box, plus a limited edition large section of stadium track (mounted into a 600mm x 400mm laser cut acrylic frame), are also available for £120 and £399 respectively.  Finally, a very limited number of premium sections are available, including numbers from both the start and finishing lines, for those collectors or sports fans who want a unique and extra special piece of history from 2012.
