West Country Women Awards Winners 2023 Announced

WINNERS of the West Country Women Awards were announced at a sold-out glittering ceremony at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth this weekend.

More than 320 guests, finalists and sponsors from all across the South West attended to celebrate winners across 16 categories.

The West Country Women Awards celebrate and recognise women all across the peninsular in all walks of life from women in arts and culture, women in sport, combatting violence against women and girls to green business of the year and many more. 

Hosts for the evening’s inspiring celebrations were Alexis Bowater OBE & Tess Stuber, co-founders of the West Country Women Awards.

Alexis Bowater said: “Tonight was a culmination of another year of recognition and celebration of thousands of amazing women across our region. We had almost 1500 nominations this year across the four counties, up almost fifty per cent on last year.

“These awards are not just about business, they are about everybody’s business and we are continually reviewing and reflecting on the categories, bringing in more this year to reflect our lives both in and out of the office.

The awards’ charity of the year was Georgia’s Voice, a previous winner from last year, who support young women in Cornwall with their mental health. Guests raised more than £3,000 for the charity on the night. 

Surprise guest Sharron Davies MBE helped present the award for Woman in Sport, Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez who sponsored the Combating Violence Against Women and Girls category attended to present the winning trophy.

Every sponsor emphasised the outstanding calibre of their category finalists when presenting the winner with their West Country Women Awards trophy.

The roll call of nominees, finalists, winners and sponsors is a testament to the overwhelming response to the West Country Women Awards. 

Headline sponsors Plymouth Citybus and Headline Production sponsors PL1 Events were joined by category sponsors Msubs, Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Continuum, LHC Design, Womble Bond Dickinson, Ian Williams, Real Ideas, Somerset Council, Michael Spiers, Lifeworks, The Franchise Consultant, Plymouth City Council, Genius PR & Events, Wollen’s, Crowdfunder, Ocean View Bar and Dining at The Dome with support from Cornwall Chamber, Somerset Chamber, Exeter Chamber, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Federation of Small Businesses with Awards Night Sponsors Action Coach and Hoare Lea. 

Plymouth Gin, Navas Drinks, South West Boutique Events, Poppy Jakes Photography, Ocean City Media, Calancombe, Devonia Spring Water, Luscombe, Steve Haywood and Andrew Bowley Photo Booth helped make the evening a triumphant success. 

And West Country Women Awards Ambassadors Trish Caller, Samantha Jackman, Jo Lines and Clare Palmer were also recognised and celebrated at the event.
