For those who are used to living in rural environments, moving to Bangkok, Thailand can be a real shock. Not only is moving to Thailand from a western country a culture shock in itself (though a pleasant one, rest assured), but the shortage of greenery and open space can feel overwhelming.

It’s the same as living in any major capital city to be honest; miles and miles of skyscrapers and malls with very little room to breathe. But, don’t let that put you off, as despite the fact that Bangkok is very much a concrete jungle, there are indeed many green and open spaces for you to enjoy (if you know where to look).

In this article, we’re going to talk about living in a condo in Bangkok, and how it is possible to thrive without a garden.

Find a beautiful condo in a great area

The first step is to find a beautiful condo in a great area to call home. Something like the Sky Walk in Phrakanong is an excellent example of this. That way, you can enjoy a spacious condo with your very own balcony.

  • Having a balcony gives you an opportunity to buy your own plants and create a little mini-garden / green haven of your own. This, coupled with the rolling views of Bangkok’s cityscape will certainly bring you peace.

Another benefit to finding property in a quality condominium complex is having a shared pool and open area.

  • Most reputable condominiums in Bangkok come with shared pools, garden areas, and plenty of space to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city. This can be a great way of getting out of your room without having to venture too far.

It’s also very important to research the local area well. You’ll want to get set up in a condo that is in close enough proximity to one of Bangkok’s many parks (or a BTS link at the least so that you can gain quick and easy access to the rest of Bangkok).

  • Being close to one of Bangkok’s major parks will provide you with some respite and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Again, Bangkok can feel overwhelming and exhausting for those who aren’t used to the big city life, however, if you situate yourself in close proximity to its open, green spaces, you’ll not regret it.

You must also decorate your home with natural things. While you may not be able to have a garden, you can still invite nature into your home and create a clean, fresh, and oxygenated environment in which you can thrive.

  • Make sure you buy plants that are easy enough to care for, but can still provide you with some element of routine.

Final thoughts: get out of the city as often as you can

Having a nice condo with a green balcony, plants inside and out, shared open spaces and a swimming pool, and living within close proximity to one of the major parks in Bangkok are all excellent ways to survive without a garden. However, one of the best ways to hold onto your sanity and not fall prey to the hustle and bustle of big city life is by getting out now and again.

Take weekends to visit Pattaya or Koh Samet, and enjoy the beach life as often as you can. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it!
