With Valentine’s Day coming round soon, are you hopelessly looking for gift ideas to surprise your loved on this year? Vouchers are impersonal, money is even worse, a trip to a nice restaurant can be ruined by terrible service, so what is the best way to impress?

Most people appreciate the thought that goes into a gift, so whether it is a photo book filled with favourite trips or a piece of jewellery that you absolutely know that they will adore, then you should be on to a winner. However, if you don’t have time to pull together a book of photos to remind them of the memories you have made, why not go and make new memories?

The UK is filled with little romantic gems or fabulous city breaks that will take their breath away. All you have to do now is choose which one. Here are a few ideas for you to consider:

Edinburgh – The Scottish capital is a beautiful place to visit, offering a perfect blend of historic scenery and visits to places like the Edinburgh Castle and also modern, tasteful restaurants and bars. There are a wide range of accommodation types available so whether you want to really push the boat out with a swanky 5 star hotel or you’d rather find a quiet B&B, Edinburgh can offer both of these and everything in between.

Lake District – There are several areas to choose from in the Lake District and plenty of things to do for walkers and people who love to be in the great outdoors. From hiking to boat trips across one of the many lakes, the views from some of the peaks are unbeatable. Whether you’re looking for a romantic countryside walk, or finding a warm, cosy pub with a real wood fire, the Lakes are an ideal place for a romantic getaway.

York - There are plenty of attractions in York, with some great architecture and historic buildings. The centre of the city has an ancient feel about it with its cobbled streets but mixes in well with modern franchises and restaurants. A lovely setting for romantic walks and scenery.

If you fancy going a bit further afield then always remember to check whether it is recommended to get travel vaccinations. There is nothing romantic about spending time in hospital recovering from an illness that could have been prevented with the correct precautions.

If you want to really show your other half some love this Valentine’s Day, whisk them away somewhere special. Building new memories and getting some private time together is going to do more to inject some romance back into your relationship. Whilst expensive clothes and jewellery are always nice to receive, they don’t really take a lot of thought or time. Wherever you fancy going, the UK has some fantastic romantic hotspots waiting for you to discover. Whilst you’re certainly not guaranteed warm weather at any time of the year, it offers character that can’t be matched by anywhere else in the world.
