Fans of an alfresco spring pint will be delighted to hear that Exe Valley Brewery and Exeter Street Food are bringing back their much loved Pop-Up-Pub from Easter weekend onwards.

Selling award winning real ales made by Exe Valley Brewery in Silverton, and traditional Devon ciders from Venton’s Cider in Clyst St Lawrence, the Pop-Up-Pub’s uniquely friendly and welcoming atmosphere has made it a popular addition to the Exeter Street Food Market in the Guildhall over the past few summers.

Part of the Pop-Up-Pub’s appeal (other than the opportunity to enjoy an excellent pint in the sunshine, of course!) is the close-knit and amicable nature of the brewery team. The Pop-Up-Pub is run by Guy Sheppard, owner of Exe Valley Brewery and chairman of SIBA (the Society of Independent Brewers). Exe Valley Brewery is a small operation – a micro-brewery located in the Silverton hills some eight or so miles north of Exeter. The brewery has just two employees, who help to run the PUP alongside Guy’s daughter.

All have a good degree of knowledge about the beers on offer, and the opportunity to chat directly to the brewers about one’s beverage is an experience which many PUP customers greatly appreciate! Despite being small, the brewery is not insignificant. Exe Valley Brewery is an old hand at producing excellent ales – they’ve been in the business for thirty years and have collected an impressive array of prestigious awards during that time. They have recently branched out into bottling some of their most popular beers, so those who don’t have time to stop and enjoy a pint from the cask can buy a bottle or three to sample later!

Nobody could accuse the PUP of being conventional. Its quirky nature is a big part of its charm. For those who are bored by simple pint-sipping, they provide a bucket of lego with which customers were invited to indulge their inner child while their outer adult enjoys a beverage. Of course, if you’d rather just sit in the sunshine and soak up the excellent Exeter Street Food vibe, then the PUP with its sofas and welcoming atmosphere can amply fulfil your wishes. The PUP advertises itself as an ‘equal opportunities Man Creche’. Those who would rather not trail around the shopping centre can be deposited at the Man Creche, enjoy some of the marvellous street food, wash it down with a pint, perhaps engage in some convivial chit-chat, and be picked up in time to carry the bags back to the car. If this sounds like a service which would suit you, then head to Exeter Guildhall Shopping Center from Easter weekend onwards, and let the PUP work its magic upon you…
