THEATRE

Exeter Police & Hospital Players: The Princess and the Ogre
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, Barnfield Theatre, Exeter
Poor Princess Fiona is banished to the castle tower, guarded by a dragon, after having a spell cast on her as a baby. Thankfully, she is not alone as she has her Nanny for company while she awaits the kiss from her saviour to break the spell. In the meantime, in the forest lives the Ogre with his best friend, Donkey, but his swamp home invaded by the fairy tale creatures who have been banished from the castle by Lord Farqua as he plans to marry his Princess. The Ogre tackles the Lord who says he will return his swamp on delivery of Princess Fiona. Will the Ogre rescue Fiona and get his swamp back? Will Fiona fall for the Lord and break the spell? The Mikado

Exeter University’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society celebrates its 50th anniversary in style, with a performance of The Mikado!  One of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular and enduring works, The Mikado follows the antics of Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, and the hilarity that ensues in the Japanese town of Titipu when, disguised as a wandering minstrel, he arrives to declare his love for Yum-Yum. https://exeternorthcott.co.uk 

Titanic The Musical 
Friday & Saturday, Queen Elizabeth's School, Western Road Campus, Main Hall, Crediton
A large cast of students from Year 9 – 13, including Charley Roberts from Year 7, have been rehearsing since the beginning of October for this show. With story and book by Peter Stone and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, the piece is a re-telling of the tragic sinking of RMS Titanic on the 14th April 1912, when over 1,500 people lost their lives as the ship struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.  Performances  at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday starting at 2.30pm  Call 01363 778365 for ticket availability and to book.

The Long Mirror

The Oh Hellos

Dear Wormwood, the latest album from beloved brother and sister act The Oh Hellos, is out now. It was recorded, piece by piece, in the house where Maggie and Tyler live in San Marcos, TX, and much like The Oh Hellos’ live performance, the album presents two alternating faces: at times delicate, intimate, affectionate; and at others, soaring and towering and joyfully explosive. Their influences range from Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens to The Middle East and the Muppets, bending and blending styles and genres into a unique mixture of eclectic folk rock. Dub Pistols: Crazy Diamonds Tour + Support

They’re back! The Pistoleros are riding into town. As they gear up to celebrate 20 years of riotous marauding, the Dub Pistols are prepping their seventh album Crazy Diamonds in 2017 and there’ll be a documentary about the band dropping at some point in the year, too. An informal drop-in session to improve your bird identification skills. Whatever your level of knowledge go along and enjoy an afternoon’s birdwatching with the help of a knowledgeable and experienced volunteer guide. Meet in the Tower Hide at Seaton Wetlands. A good mix of food stalls, antiques, clothes, jewellery and craft stalls.  This market takes place very Saturday from 8.30am-1pm.

EXHIBITIONS

Dartmoor: A Wild and Wondorous Region
RAMM, Queen Street, Exeter
Dartmoor has inspired generations of artists. This exhibition traces the story of Dartmoor, once described as a ‘dreary mountainous tract’ and later as the epitome of the picturesque. The artists in the exhibition have depicted the moor using a wide range of media including oil paintings, watercolours, engravings and early photographs. Works from RAMM’s collections are displayed alongside loans from British museums and galleries as well as rarely seen works from private collections. The exhibition runs until 1 April.

South West Academy Exhibition
From Saturday, Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Dowell Street, Honiton
An exhibition of work by members of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts.   A new body of work will include paintings, sculpture, prints and ceramics. All of the work on display will be for sale. A catalogue to accompany the exhibition will be available at the gallery. The exhibition runs until 24 February.
