Dartmoor Folk Festival

8th-10th August, South Zeal, on the north edge of Dartmoor just off the A30 between Exeter and Launceston

A friendly, traditional festival in the lovely village of South Zeal, with highlights including ceilidh, song and music sessions, dartmoor stepdance and broomdance championships, Dartmoor fayre, craft displays, dances, music hall, a Sunday ramble, pub sessions, and children's events. Camping is available in fields close to the festival site, or day tickets can be purchased, with events taking place in the nearby village hall and playing fields

Weekend tickets with/without camping are £50/£40, day tickets are £30, and children under 16 are half price.

Exeter international blacksmith’s festival
13th-16th August, Clyst St Mary, EX5 1DJ 

A family fair celebrating the blacksmithing craft, with competitions, stands, entertainment, masterclasses, and children’s activities.

Marie Curie Walk 10
23rd August, Killerton, National Trust, EX5 3LE

An evening 10k walk around beautiful Killerton Country House and its grounds, helping to raise money for Marie Curie, caring for patients with terminal illnesses, and supporting their families.

Dawlish Air Show
22nd-23rd August, Seafront, Dawlish, Devon, EX7 9AP

The spectacular Dawlish Air Show attracts over 80,000 people each year to watch an array of aircraft take to the sky at this award winning display. With the RAF Red Arrows performing alongside a Battle of Britain memorial flight, and a host of other aircraft, it looks set to be a perfect day out for the family.

Double Locks cider and sausage festival
23rd-24th August, Double Locks Pub, Exeter EX2 6LT

A welcoming family pub, the Double Locks is holding its 4th annual cider and sausage festival. With 50 different local and national ciders, and a vast selection of local sausages, at one of Exeter’s most picturesque pubs, it makes for an enticing way to spend the afternoon, situated on the banks of the ship canal.

The Great Fete

To mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, Unexpected Exeter and their partners are creating a reinterpretation of the enthusiastic, optimistic recruitment events which encouraged the men and boys from Exeter to enlist in 1914. With games and activities for the whole family, the fete promises to be fun and informative, whether you’re dancing to waltzes, signing along to music hall, being inspected by the sergeant-major, or trying the assault course. Saddles and Paddles at Exeter Quay

If you have budding musicians among your brood, and need something for them during the week, Exeter Music Holiday School might be the answer. Open during the school holidays for children 4-16, the sessions offer experience and professional music workshops in a range of instruments from woodwind, stringed, electronic, percussion, and vocals. Bookings available for the entire duration, week, day, half-day, or hourly sessions. Sibling concessions and bursary are also available.

Costs £25 per day, £15 half day and £5 per hour or £100 for a weekly session. Sibling discount available. A bursary is also available for families on low income.
