Celebrating more than a decade of business success, the UK’s fastest growing wireless network solutions provider, WiFi SPARK, has marked its milestone anniversary and continued growth with the opening of its new headquarters in the heart of Exeter.

Lord Mayor Councillor Percy Prowse was on hand to officially open the doors of the new offices in Matford Business Park, Exeter, on Friday 17th October 2014.

Chosen for its vibrant business links and opportunities, the move to Exeter marks a new chapter for the company as it heads into the 12th year of business since it was founded by Matt O’Donovan in 2003. With more people than ever in the UK expecting internet connection in hotels, bars, hospitals, schools and even theme parks, Wi-Fi is now considered a fourth utility by many. This demand has seen WiFi SPARK outgrow its previous roots in Newton Abbot, and with ambitious plans, a move was necessary for the future development of the company.

WiFi SPARK has a broad variety of active locations across the UK and Ireland. In Exeter alone, names such as Westpoint Exeter and Royal Albert Memorial Museum boast a WiFi SPARK bespoke wireless system. In fact, WiFi SPARK facilitates millions of device connections through its platform each week. Further afield, the likes of the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham and an expanding NHS portfolio that includes hundreds of NHS locations nationwide, are amongst those who have their WiFi hosted by the company. The SPARK® technology is also used in the UK’s largest shopping centres, which together attract over 400 million customer visits each year.

Matt O’Donovan, Managing Director of WiFi SPARK, said: “We are delighted to make the move to Exeter as it is a testament to our growth and achievements during the last 11 years. The company has grown stronger, despite a challenging economic climate, and this move to the city puts the company in the best position to continue our expansion over the next decade too. In fact as part of our expansion plan, we are currently looking for skilled developers to join our in-house development team and help further develop its WiFi Management Software. The role is varied and the work challenging so they will need to be flexible, able to adapt existing skills to new situations and be quick to learn in a fast-moving environment. WiFi SPARK offers excellent benefits including company pension, private healthcare and bonus incentives.”

“WiFi SPARK was actually born from a simple idea. As a keen sailor, my boat was moored in Torquay Marina in Devon, but there was no real option for Internet connectivity over ten years ago. I believed that WiFi for marinas really should be quite an achievable thing to do and grew the idea from there. As a team we have built a bespoke platform that can be used across a variety of locations, businesses and sectors. It all started from a problem that needed a solution, and ultimately, that is the very ethos of our business; creating and tailoring solutions for businesses that will provide their customers with the best possible WiFi user experience.

“Now our WiFi SPARK systems connect over 2,000,000 devices each week and, as WiFi becomes even more essential to our lives, we hope we’ll be celebrating even greater success in another decade!”

The Lord Mayor Councillor Percy Prowse, said: “It is always great to welcome new and growing businesses to the area, and we are delighted that WiFi SPARK has decided to move its base to the city. We very much look forward to seeing the growth of the company and wish them every success in the coming years.”
