A FIRM which helps agricultural businesses convert their waste into ‘green’ fuel, is celebrating after achieving an internationally-recognised quality mark.
New Generation Biogas, based in Totnes, has been awarded the ISO 9001: 2008 by QAS International (Quality Management Systems) for its design, manufacture and installation of plant and equipment for the production of biogas.
NG Biogas makes anaerobic-digesters, which break down biodegradable waste and transform it into gas, which can then be burnt to provide heat, electricity or vehicle fuel.
The units enable small to medium sized farms and agricultural businesses make the most from their waste in an environmentally friendly and profitable way.
Howard Sutton, managing director of NGB, said: “Our anaerobic digesters take biodegradable material and, using microbes, break it down to create biogas which can be used for fuel.
“Our customers include the likes of farmers, food producers, distilleries and breweries. We put a plant on site and the user will feed it with animal slurry and crop production waste and it will produce biogas, which then fuels their site and produces surplus, saleable energy.
“This ISO demonstrates that we tick all the right boxes in manufacturing quality, which will significantly simplify our products’ eligibility for Government support tariffs. It is an approval and demonstrates that we have got good quality systems in place.
“It is a great achievement for our small team of eight and a testament to their commitment in ensuring our customers are getting the best products and services.”
It took the company just over a year to obtain certification, which was assisted by Roger Preston area manager of ISO management specialists IMSM.
ISO 9001: 2008 is the international standard for QMS and is used by more than one million organisations worldwide.
